Great, great news! Adam Finkelstein likes this commitment but refers to Andrew as a PG.

Great news. Beating out Penn surprises me. Despite what Finelstein may say, I think he is very much a SG - and a good one.
To refresh some memories, he had offers from Penn, Delaware, Drexel, Yale, UMBC, Q'pac, Rider, Boston U, Brown, Loyola, Army, Navy, Colgate, and Lafayette.

Funk junior year highlights:
http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/andrew-funk/R P2MRH...
Funk's Archbishop Wood team went 29-3 last year and was one of the top few teams in PA, winning the 5A state title. . They play some tough competition.

Andrew Funk will really deepen our Guard play next season, and we haven't played a game this year. MacKenzie and O'Reilly will be Seniors, Toomer a Jr, Sotos and Sechan, Sophs, Jones a Sr. and Robertson a Jr. both listed as Guards, I consider both small forwards/guards. Now we have to get another Center or really high level power forward, or one of each. I love it when the Bison just keep reloading.

Andrew, WELCOME!
Looks like a very good shooter from 3 point land. That is the great equalizer in NCAA hoops.
According to City of Basketball Love:
"The younger brother of Army point guard Tommy Funk, Andrew is a rather different player, though they share some characteristics. A long, athletic combo guard, Funk is knockdown outside shooter off the catch, with the ability to hit from all around the perimeter as well as consistent hit the one-dribble pull-up; he's also good at using the side-step to avoid defenders and still hit from 3. Becoming more vocal on the floor, though he's still never had to be the guy on the point, playing behind his brother as a sophomore and alongside Collin Gillespie as a junior; should get more experience running Wood's offense as a senior. A strong academic prospect, Funk will get a lot of looks from Ivy/Patriot schools this summer and could also see looks from the MAAC, CAA and other such mid-major leagues."

Recruiting analysts on Twitter:
Adam Finkelstein
"Love this pick-up for Bucknell. In a limited 2018 PG market, Funk was someone I thought could get higher level interest."
Norm Eavenson
"Versatile,no nonsense guard with court savvy. Always engaged and plays to win.A solid shot maker. Glue guy"
Chick Gillespie
"nice pick up for Bison can help at both G positions"

I approve of this guy and another year really is going to go far until he gets to the Hill. Reminds me a little of Ayers and Shazier also which bodes well for the Bison. My prediction is he's going to surprise in a good way and become a second year starter.

Named one of the standouts of this past weekend's City of Basketball Love Shootout:
http://www.cityofbasketballlove.com/news_article/s...
Excerpt:
"Funk demonstrated his ability to penetrate and find the open man spotting up. The 6-3 guard’s shot from beyond the arc is well documented, but he flashed his ability to drive into the lane, which opened up the floodgates for the rest of Archbishop Wood’s high powered offense. The Archbishop Wood backcourt tandem of Funk and Tyree Pickron did a tremendous job facilitating the action on the court, and setting each other up with open shots."

Funk's Archbishop Wood team has opened up 2-1 against some good opposition. In an 80-70 loss at DeMatha last Sunday, Funk had 25 points, including 4-9 on threes. And he led Wood with 13 points in a 57-56 win over Shipley this weekend.

Montverde, who is the #1 HS team in the nation, blew out Wood. Funk led his team with 16 points and 4 rebounds.
To give you an idea of Montverde's strength, their five starters are committed to Duke, Florida, Gonzaga, Maryland and Georgia Tech. Their roster includes nine players from foreign countries, including ones from Russia and China. Of the 18 players on the roster, only one is from Florida, where Montverde is located.

Funk last night scored 35 points and also had 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals in a 75-73 loss over a very good Roman Catholic squad (coached by John Griffin's brother Matt) - one of the top team's in PA. Funk had 29 points in the second half. This article has three video clips of Funk in that game - scoring on a drive, driving and then passing to the corner for an easy shot by a teammate, and finally hitting a very long three (videos 2,4, and 5). Funk is #11 in white btw.

Yes, he has turned into a very solid player. Ironically the only offer he had in HS was from Army - despite having very high grades and SAT's. A lot of PL and Ivy schools would love to have him now.
Being only 6-0 tall, he is a different type of player than Andrew, who has grown to 6-4.

If Andrew plays the equal of his brother with four additional inches, he’d be a fine addition for sure.

Funk was named 1st team All-Catholic League today - a great achievement considering that league is one of the stronger ones in the East. Even better, it appears that he was the 3rd highest vote-getter - trailing only Isaiah Wong, a junior who has offers from Villanova, Seton Hall, and many others; and Seth Lundy, a junior who has offers from PSU, UConn, Oregon, VCU, and many others.

Funk recently made the 2nd team All-Southeast PA team. The first team includes one senior going to Duke, two juniors with dozens of very high level offers including ones from Villanova, and two with dozens of offers from schools like Penn State, UConn, Oregon, VCU, and Temple.
