Separate thread, as this scandal is growing and looks like it will continue unfolding for quite a long time.

Here, Arizona said to have offered $150,000 to a recruit

In case anyone was wondering, Bucknell is outfitted by Adidas and has been since 2006. Unlike the P6 conference teams, I doubt any bribes were involved.

"After the Louisville assistant left the hotel room, Dawkins and the others discussed the payment plan to the first recruit's family. He said that even though Adidas had agreed to pay him $100,000, a rival athletic apparel company was 'coming with a higher number,' and he needed to get more money from Adidas to secure the player's commitment to Louisville."

That's from this article, which gives a great detailed overview of the allegations:

Given what's going down, issuing all of those superlatives about adidas starts to sound somewhat like whistling while walking through the graveyard. Even down to the point that the article mentions Louisville and Arizona by name. Think I'd want to walk that article back a little. Fwiw, I thought last years men's hoops unis sucked. Looked like 80's throwbacks.

The Bucknell Adidas article is from 2015.

I'll be curious to see this year's uniforms. I didn't like the blue road ones last year. Not a big fan of having blue road uniforms in general.

It will be interesting to see how deep this goes. It wouldn't surprise me if it extends down to the mid-major level on a smaller scale.

According to this article, Rick Pitino is worth about $25,000,000. I imagine that he did not get there by being a nice guy all of the time.

This might sound socialistic, but what would happen if there was a cap on how much NCAA coaches could make?

It is interesting that a previous Nova recruit's mother is allegedly involved with receiving payments for her son to go to Arizona. When asked about the current NCAA basketball scandal, Jay Wright said the Nova's house is "in order".

Looks like Louisville is taking the necessary steps to fire Patino while Patino is claiming that they are in breach of contract. I don't know why, but he appears to want that $44 million buyout . . .

“I think when all is said and done there is going to be 100-plus coaches involved,” said one college coach.

Its not a bad thing to spot a kid a new pair of shoes and a little dough. Many of these kids spent their youth with old sneakers all shredded up in the front and they just kept playing ball. Give them the shoes and go down to the town park and when a local kid is out on the court day after day and his shoes are flaps and threads give him or her a pair too. The NCAA not the coaches are the ones turning college basketball into a bad insurance company. The schools give them 45 large a year for scholarships and the NCAA makes millions on them through TV but don't give them any cash. Give them some cash-its not going to hurt anyones pocket. The NCAA is in a delicate situation right now and I hope they don't go the way of professional sports but the coaches aren't the ones wrecking the league. Here is THE solution. There should be no scholarships proper for athletes, playing basketball or any other sport should be a year round work study job paying 5,000 bi-weekly, roughly 120,000 per year. This is for the starters, everything slides as minutes played goes down. The tuition and everything else comes out of this. Of course, if they are eligible for financial aid or other smaller academic scholarships they should be able to get those too, as well as any student loans they choose to take out. After tuition, room and board and bills are paid they could use their money as they pleased-to help their family, to invest, or to peee it away if they choose. Everyone is happy, and coaches aren't put in the position they presently are. Problem solved.

Rick Pitino was officially fired by Louisville for "Just Cause" and ADIDAS cut all ties with him:

It would be very interesting to see an NCAA tournament without Duke, UNC, etc. Hit them where it hurts . . . in their wallet!

Among the schools listed is Michigan State, with this on top of the Nassar scandal. Going to be tough for the Spartans for a while.

Many tweets in the past couple of hours have Bucknell references - but not bad ones. For example, four tweets from four different people:

"Nobody is safe. Tip of the iceberg indeed. Think it all starts to trickle out before the tourney kicks off. Bucknell Bison might be your national champions this year."

"Number 1 seeds come March Madness. USD, Vermont, Bucknell, and Florida Gulf Coast! "

. . . "I'm taking Bucknell..."

"By the time they get done sanctioning all these schools Bucknell will be the #1 seed in March Madness"

Haha...I’ll take it!

Still, have to shake my head at the stupid decisions these adults in charge of these programs make. The problem is insidious, but making these high profile coaches and programs, like Sean Miller and Arizona, accountable is a step in the right direction toward getting a grip on this mess.

BRW, these big programs are so dirty that I hope that the Head Coaches all end up as convicted felons who are banned from coaching for life. If the rumored Sean Miller recording is real, he should get charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, wire fraud, tax evasion, etc. The NCAA should implement the nuclear option and disband certain programs.

If a kid can get suspended for accepting a meal, what is a proportionate response to a Head Coach facilitating a $100k bribe?
