I only saw the first half and then my battery ran out with now way to charge it. I saw missed threes, missed foul shots, missed free throws, no real plan and quirky subbing. Jones starting? and we lost by one. I saw missed layups and missed NBA threes. We're good, but not that good. Any one of a myriad of fixable faults and we are 1-0. It didn't happen. On to the next game.

A couple observations. When the 3s are not falling a team looks worse than they really are, and when they are falling the team looks better than they are. Last night in the first half they were not falling, but in my opinion we settled for way too many 3s from crazy long range. The offense was best when we got it in to Nana underneath where he dominated during the first. But, 2nd observation, in the second half Monmouth adjusted and I thought they pushed Nana farther from the basket and forced him to take many shots outside of his comfort zone. I know they say he worked on shooting from farther out during the off season, but it did not show last night.

89 - my thanks to you for coming. Always great to meet another Bison...especially a huge hoop fan. Did go to Baltimore in the a.m. for my son’s AAU game.

Glad to get Bison Fans contribution and well done to 137 for his conjecture prior to that being posted. I was confused as anybody with the personnel decisions, and that knowledge at least provides the required context.

Winning is tough enough without unnecessary distractions and I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I am a 100% adherent to the philosophy that you “can’t let the animals run the zoo”.

Prior to reading the Board however I mistakenly interpreted it as a disregard of an equal philosophy that you reap what you sow and you have to earn your minutes. Although I still have concerns about our dribble drive defense at the guard level in the MU opener, I am much happier knowing that the staff and players are on the same page otherwise I incorrectly projected a world of misunderstanding brewing.

I'm no doctor and I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn last night but I did listen to the game on the radio. During both the pre and post game shows, Kimball was referenced as being injured. Pre-game, Doug said he was going to try to play, would have limited minutes to try to manage "the injury" which was NOT good, etc. He never said what it was, but kept calling it "the injury". During the post game show he asked Coach about the fact that he played so many minutes and Kimball being a real gamer that he must have begged to stay in, etc. Coach took a very long pause and said the he (Coach) needs to not let that happen again. That they had earmarked him for 16-20 mins. total and instead he played 16 in the first half. That he (Coach) needs to take a look at substitution patterns to make sure it doesn't happen again so "the injury" which isn't good, doesn't get worse.

I am paraphrasing, but "the injury" was never identified and they seemed very concerned about it getting worse.

Not sure of the accuaracy of the report, but I am told it is an oblique injury or something similar. That is often an injury that takes some time to heal.

Monmouth lost by 20 to undefeated Virginia today in the NIT. Unfortunately they had to shut down Micah Seaborn, who is again having knee problems. He had 2 points and 1 rebound in 17 minutes - not remotely the same player that Bucknell saw. Seaborn played the last part of last year with a torn MCL, and also has a torn ACL and a torn meniscus in his background. If he is seriously hurt, that pretty much ends Monmouth's shot at a strong season.
