The Quakers are back in action at the Palestra, tonight, against Navy.
Game Notes: http://www.pennathletics.com/documents/2017/11/14/ ...
The probable starters are again Foreman (G), Woods (G), Betley (G), Brodeur (F), Rothschild (C)
According to KenPom, Penn is 160 and Navy is 169. Navy was ranked 3rd in the Patriot League preseason poll.
While SD seems to be experimenting over the first two games, I am hoping to see Brodeur play closer to the basket, while he and Betley take more shots.
Wood seems to have earned much more playing time to see what he can do, after his performances in the first two games. It is a testament to his hard work that he has gotten himself back in the conversation after he played himself out of the rotation last season. This happened with Foreman last year, and hopefully, the same can happen with Caleb.
Speaking of Foreman, while he has earned his starting role over the last year, if the game is close, as I expect it will be, I hope that the coaching staff or his teammates can find a way to take the ball out of his hands as the clock winds down.
FWIW -
Last year, Penn lost 70-68 in Annapolis. Penn was down 10 at the half, but took an 8 point lead with 9:13 to go. The Quakers went 5:21 without scoring a point and Navy scored the last 9 points for the win.
Over the last 9:13, Foreman went 0-3 with one foul, Wood went 0-3 (0-2 from three) with 3 turnovers and 2 fouls, while Donahue went 1-2 (1-1 from three).
For that game, Wood scored 15 points (6-12 shooting, including 3-8 from three) in 35 minutes, Foreman scored 5 points (2-9 shooting, 1-3 from three) in 24 minutes and Donahue had 12 points (4-11 shooting, 4-10 from three) in 27 minutes.

Thanks for that link.
Here's something that caught my eye -
- Navy is leading the Patriot League in free throw percentage through two games at 81.5 percent. Navy shot 64.1 percent from the free throw line last season.
So, improving FT shooting is something that can be done quickly.

Seems to be a trend that has stayed fairly consistent, and is pretty maddening. Game after game they don't put teams away and instead get stagnant and scoreless.

Will 50 minutes Monday impact the result tonight?

I would guess SD will use his bench more liberally after playing the starters for 38+ Monday. I expect to see Caleb, Devon, Jackson, Sam, Eddie and Jarrod a lot more. Probably Dwyer in that group too.

It's only 2 games. I'd wager that even in our worst seasons we probably eked out a few games of decent FT shooting thrown into the mix.

We can afford to, of course, because Navy is never going to have a tall lineup (the rare David Robinson duly noted).

It's on ESPN3 but I won't be able to view it. I'll be at my first high school P-T conferences for boychick #1.

I'm not sure what Coach Donahue should do. I didn't think there were enough scorers on the team before the last 2 games, which only confirmed my concerns. Frankly there are more available minutes than players who can absorb them.
Brodeur needs to be the primary inside option but I don't know what that means for Rothschild. And if it isn't Rothschild out there then who?
Foreman and Woods are too overlapping to be useful together. They both wind up trying to force things when neither should be allowed to. Neither is a particularly good shooter, neither is a good enough enabler to make the other players on the court better. I think either would be OK out there if surrounded by better scoring options. Dev is more of the same.
I hope Jackson Donahue got the message that the coach was giving him by benching him vs. La Salle. And if he didn't then we need to see more of Wood pronto.
Betley needs to get the ball more often but the other team knows that.
Hoping for a couple questions answered positively tonight.

I know I have different rooting interests than many here, but for me, these are two must wins tonight. The league needs Penn as a Top 135 RPI team and Princeton to record some (potential) quality wins. I know it’s early, but the margin of error decreases greatly for both with losses tonight. And Harvard can’t drop at HC or at Manhattan (even though the odds say the most likely scenario is a split).
Still mystified at how Penn gave that one away on Monday...

Navy's D has been indifferent.
Still, good to see Betley and Wood hitting from deep. I'm liking Wood much better than what Donahue is doing.
Like how Woods has been pushing the ball on transition, that's opening up things on the fast break.
