IMHO, Navy looks awful, don't know why. Betley is a player.

Amazing that Penn starts the half with 4 terrible possessions in a row and Navy still can’t put a dent in the lead.

My favorite thing about college basketball is the 'guy-comes-out-of-virtual ly-nowhere-and-has-a-phen omenal-senior-year' story. I'd love it if Caleb Wood is that guy this year. That would be so much fun to watch.

Perhaps I shouldn't, but I feel kind of bad for the Navy guys. I'm sure they're a great bunch of kids, and this must be a nightmare for them.

Yes. I lost it and kept restarting it, and it ended at the same place a couple of times. I went to ESPN3, and that is working.

It’s hard to overstate how dreadful Navy looks.
Still, there have moments in the not so distant past when we haven’t put the beatdown on a terrible team, so credit to them for doing so.
Also good to see Scott putting up a decent little stretch of play the last few minutes.

Navy did manage to beat Pitt by 9. And they are around 150-160 in kenpom, just like us. So while they've obviously played terribly, they may be better than Fairfield.

Give Navy this: they're clearly winning the battle of the scrubs.

I miss one game and they decide to make shots. Looks like I'll have to watch the replay, or at least the opening. Great bounceback win and important for all of them. From the box score it looks like almost everyone contributed. Good stuff.

Defense was probably even better than the offense. Nice to see Wood play for extended periods. He adds another dimension and frees Betley to move around.

I know I have different rooting interests than many here, but for me, these are two must wins tonight. The league needs Penn as a Top 135 RPI team and Princeton to record some (potential) quality wins. I know it’s early, but the margin of error decreases greatly for both with losses tonight.
Penn 66
Navy 45
Princeton 56
BYU 65
Well at least one of us stepped up tonight!
FREE CALEB WOOD!!! FREE CALEB WOOD!!! Another night with zero turnovers. Tied with Betley for most points.
By the way, Did the Quakers attempt a free throw in the second half?

I think this was a look-ahead game for Navy. Tomorrow the seniors get their service assignments.
I can't imagine their focus was entirely on an 0-2 Penn team tonight.

The power of pessimism.
What I saw was the power of a second 3-point threat.
I'd like to see a starting line-up of:
Rothschild
Brodeur
Betley
Wood
Foreman/Woods
I'd bet Caleb had strong ORAT/DRAT numbers tonight...

Agree with that lineup.
This team needs a 2nd outside threat next to Betley. Wood impressed with his decision making and shot selection, Donahue didn't.
Woods also impressed me. He was constantly challenging Navy in ways Foreman doesn't. My concern about Woods' ability to put the ball in the net still stands but it's not like Foreman or Goodman did any better.
Brodeur isn't an outside threat. Playing him outside seems to be messing with his offensive game.
Navy was flat so it's not a game which we can draw hard conclusions from.

I'm hoping for two things:
2) Woods will shake off the rust and start making shots that he is currently missing (although I kind of wish he'd stop shooting 3s and focus on getting to the basket).
2) Brodeur will figure out how to be effective in his new role.
Both of these things are going to take some time to occur (if they do at all). If they happen, it's going to be rainbows and unicorns. If not, time for Plan B.

Much fun at the Palestra last night with the other 900 or so who bothered to come out. But a classic old time beat down win with (as Marv used to say) Extended GarBage Time.
Observations. The Wood boys (both Antonio with an S and Caleb without) are players. It was good to see Wood look absolutely confident about his 3 point shot and also good to see a Penn guard physically dominate his opponent. AJ is lost on offense playing outside but he and Max are beasts inside on defense when playing together. Betley is our best all-around player.
I'm now looking for a sweep in our next 4 games (the Div 2 game and 3 lesser mid-majors in Estero).
We should have won that LaSalle game.
