Bucknell Game Article:

http://www.bucknellbison.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_O...

Game Notes indicates Avi Toomer is out 4-8 weeks. That is a big loss if he is out for the longer side of the range. Would not only miss all OOC games but also a number of PL games. Let's hope for the 4 weeks.

I am expecting a big game from the Bison. Had they defeated any of the power conference schools, I think that there would have been a solid student turnout. As it is, I do not know what to expect.

GO BISON!!!

Students are on break for Thanksgiving, so don't expect to see any today or Wednesday except maybe the women's team.

Wow, a whole week for Thanksgiving. When did this start? My older son, who is at GW, has an exam on Tuesday at 4pm. Then, he has off Wednesday to Sunday.

So excited for tonite! Having our traditional pre-game meal at Towne Tavern...maybe it will bring the Bison good luck. But I better have two drinks to make sure.

Moore with the start. Makes sense. Awful news for Avi but it puts more offense in the lineup (which hasn’t been the problem)

Wish the crowd was bigger but it is what it is. So far a decent start...I’m sure Siena didn’t gameplan to stop Bruce Moore from distance:)

We know Birdsong is “folksy” (and that is being nice) but I have complete disdain for his newest Kimbal moniker. And yes, Newman doesn’t look 6’8” at all in person. Finally, I like Sotos, too.

I don't like the Maple Leaf Marvel either, though I applaud Doug for making it up. I think it should be Kimbal the nimble thimble. That fits him much better. The Bison are playing well and Birdsong is on point.

Bucknell played really well with good individual performances notably Bruce Moore, Nate Sestina, and Ben Robertson. Meeks and Sotos played well as did the big three (Foulland, Brown, and Thomas). Kimble the nimble thimble played great and he's back on track the future looks bright for him. I think this is what a typical Patriot league game is going to look like, we will be dominant. Birdsong called a good game.

Bruce looked good...well lots of guys looked good. Overall, rebounding still is a minus. 115 is crazy..seemed effortless as well. But my goodness, the number of foul calls was almost crazy. And giving up 92 isn’t good no matter the game situation. But glad the bench got a good run. Hopefully a good all-around performance is on tap for Wednesday. And speaking of on tap, I think my pre-game at the Tavern had something to do with the victory tonite.

1. Yes, some good minutes for Bruce, although consistency is still an issue.

2. Officiating was awful. Part of the issue, I think, is that it was very much a mixed crew. Donnie Eppley refs 100 games a year at every level from P5 conferences to the lowest D1 leagues. The second official refs almost exclusively in the southeast - not sure how he made his way to Lewisburg. And the third ref (Walker) is a D3 ref. Not sure why he was assigned this game. In any event, Siena's incredibly bad defense was a major contributor to the number of fouls. They gave almost no help at that end, leaving the defenders out to dry. Had Bucknell just given the ball to Thomas each time and cleared out, he might have shot over 40 FT's.

3. Giving up 92 points certainly doesn't look good, but some context is necessary. BU cleared the bench at 8:30 with a 94-63 lead. At that point, there had been 63 possessions, meaning they gave up exactly 1.00 points per possession - which is better than the NCAA average. However the subs (PF Meeks, SG O'Reilly, PG Sotos/Sechan, C Newman, and SF Robertson - plus a few minutes of Sestina) gave up 29 points over the final 19 possessions. That is not good and made the overall defense look mediocre. Their focus appeared to be more on scoring than on stopping Siena. But the defense over the first 31:30 was OK. I would still like to see some zone however.

4. Sotos had a really good game. As he gains confidence/experience, he is getting better each game. Great handle, great court vision, and a good overall game.

Yes I agree that the extended run by the bench certainly bolstered Siena’s offensive output. And Siena, while athletic, did a poor job of team defense.

And I wanted to mention Sotos as well. He def looks like a solid player already and I’m excited for his future. He doesn’t get rattled, has a quiet confidence and is solid in most every area.

Great analysis as always 137. The team will be in good hands next year with Sotos running the point. And it's nice that Kimbal will not have to fill that role at all this year.

It looked like the instruction to the bench was not to foul, given the officiating. Hence the big run by Siena in garbage time.

Thomas must have just about doubled his made FTs for the year (but I'm too lazy to look it up). 13-13 in the 2nd half playing only about 10 minutes tells the story.

1st 4 games - 14-27 52%
vs. Siena - 19-22 86%

Bison89,

What I saw on the court was a potential mega talent in the PL. Sotos was so incredibly comfortable and adept at this level of play that it was eerie. I may be overreacting but I think he’s a superstar in the making. Increasingly, like The Mount, these guys transfer.
