Of course, I know the answer, having actually spent one weekend in the cornfields at DeKalb many moons ago.

Seems like we should be up more than 12. NIU being maximally efficient the few times they do score--all some kind of 3 point variety.

I could do with more Caleb, less Jackson.
Woods is in there for his defensive play and ability to move the ball around on offense without throwing it away.

Very nice half. They're not going to score that way again but I expect less turnovers in the second half. Great and important half from Max and especially AJ, Caleb continues to be a revelation and Antonio just brings it all together. You can hear how excited the bench is.

Though I think all but maybe one game are on radio; when not on XPN, it's either 560 or 900-something (I think it's 920, but it might be 940 or 960.) Both of those have online streams as well.

I may have been off on my prediction of the turnovers slowing down...Nothing in basketball bothers me more than an official making a call through bodies when the guy on the ball doesn't blow the whistle. Kind of like a home plate umpire making a check swing call himself. So aggravating.

In a game where Betley goes 3-11, the team shoots 56% anyway.

By far the best the offense has looked because they were creating good looks both deep in the paint and on the perimeter.
There was that worrisome stretch around the 12:00 mark in the 2nd half when we let them cut it to 11 a couple times, but it never got to single digits and we were able to keep a good working margin. NIU had to make a lot of low % 2-pt Js to even stay in touch to the extent they did down the stretch.

Regression to the mean shooting for both teams and still a double digit win?
Penn 24 assists, 11 turnovers
NIU 11 assists and 19 turnovers.
The trend continues......

It was very refreshing to see Penn stave off any serious run that NIU made. I was worried that NIU might cut the deficit to under 10 before halftime. Didn't happen. Teams will invariably go on runs of 6-0 or 8-0, but Penn never allowed them to spiral to 14-2 or 16-4. Antonio going 4-5 from 3-point range certainly was big for us. Maybe P38 is right about him?
By the way, was anyone besides me surprised that Jarrod only got 1 minute of PT after his play on Saturday?

Rothschild was the star of the game IMO but Woods gave him a run for his money. He was a plus in all facets of the game - defending was solid and he consistently made good decisions on the offensive end.
Simmons is 4th in the pecking order for the bigs. When Brodeur and Rothschild play like that then he's not getting minutes unless one of the big 2 get in foul trouble or it's a blowout.

And I wouldn’t put much stock into a 16 pt performance vs a low end D3 opponent. That said Jarrod plays in every game which is important and I’m sure his role will expand as he figures things out and learns to play and practice hard. Jarrod will be a key piece as the year progresses. We have seen good progress from Eddie, who is a bit ahead of Jarrod but I expect the holiday break to help these youngsters catch up.

For Penn Nation:
In fairness Towson is a top 125 team and maybe fringe 100 team (they were around 116 before our game and after are down to 111).
Missouri State and Georgia Southern are all solid mid majors this year close in ratings to the top of our league (110 and 90 on Kenpom this evening).
Those sound like quality opponents to me. The shame is that we blew the chance to face another quality opponent by losing to Towson tonight.
Behind door #2 is a UMKC team ranked way down at 284, but who only lost to Georgia Southern by 3 and comfortably beat the Manhattan team that beat Harvard. Sounds like a trap to me... hope the guys can bounce back quickly.

Towson was the better team last night. They are very athletic and they made their shots in the 2nd half.
We were clearly shaky during their first half run. Darnell looked unhinged but later settled down and played pretty well in the 2nd half.
I think Penn would need more time to prepare for a team like that. They were literally as quick as our ball movement in defending the three ball. Probably more designed screens, back door cuts and slowing the game down a bit might have worked last night. But - Penn played ok for most of the game. The fact is that Towson was just better than us last night and our game plan didn't negate their strengths.
