We are getting killed by three point shooting. That is two games in a row. On the plus side Meisner is playing well. Anybody know when Castlin is getting back? And what is the story with Killingsworth?

Adlesh had one of his worst O games, missing shots he normally hits at a 40% clip.

Adlesh was 0 for 9; Hickman was 3 for 9.

We've plateaued. Apart from Meisner, who is beginning to fulfill our expectations, no one else seems to have improved in any noticeable way.
Where is Killingsworth? Is Barba playing instead on the merits or because Killingsworth is injured? And what happened to Hanson? Is he benched too? It is hard to understand the logic behind some of Engles' lineup choices.

First of all, why would you ever start the season with six games on the road? Second, except for Meisner, we have either not improved or regressed. Third, when all else fails,, at least play tough defense and not surrender open threes. Fourth, maybe some of us had unrealistic expectations about the rest of our roster. Fifth, unlike Al Bagnoli, who at least keeps the fan/alumni base informed about what is going on from week to week with his emails and frequent interviews with Carly Nevis, it is impossible to feel as if Engles and his staff have any interest in providing even minimal information.

No one seems to mind when the baseball team goes down to FL or TX in late Feb, and loses their first six or eight games to teams like UNLV or Mississippi State. Everyone seems to understand that by the time the team returns to the Northeast, they'll be kicking some Ivy League as.
Let's hope the same is true of the basketball team.
And I'm guessing the reason all these games are on the road is that you can't get good teams, like Villanova and UConn, to show up at Columbia's pathetic subterranean gym.

Feels like we've pretty much stagnated in the engles era, with Castlin back we'll probably go 7-7 and without him 6-8 or 5-9 and either way we probably won't make top 4. I don't like to make judgements after so few data points, but I also don't see anything that shows we have the potential to compete for first or second place in the ivy. We are showing time and time again that we are a kenpom 200 team.

It's still too early to predict where we are going to finish in the Ivy League race. At the very least, we should wait another couple of weeks.

Fully agree with Columbia 37P6.
The only worry I have is the D, which was supposed to be a focus this year. Maybe I've missed it, but boxing out seems to have been neglected, often.

Right now, we only have two players who are performing at a reasonably high level--Meisner and Smith. Perhaps someone else will make the jump in the next few weeks--another guard, a sudden breakthrough by Tape or Faulds, and/or the return of Castlin. But if they don't, we are heading to a somewhat stale season, 50 KP slots below Penn/Harvard, and an = number above Cornell/Dartmouth.

Even with the bad O performance vs Colgate, Adlesh has had a decent first few games.
41% FGs,394% threes despite missing all @ Colgate, 11 assists.
His D and court presence have also helped.

Adlesh is a good defender. He is strong, gets in lanes, fights over screens, etc. But he has no length. So with Castlin and others injured when he starts with Smith we have very little length at guard which hurts our team defense. Also when he starts teams can game for his outside shot which Colgate did successfully. I am not saying he cannot adapt (he has already added a pull up jumper this year) but as of now he is stronger as a sub or playing PG as backup.

At least Adlesh is visible to the Columbia Basketball Fan Base. Not so with Bolster, Brumant, Castlin, Eberle, Killingworth, Klores, all of whom seem to have disappeared from sight. No current information on any of them on the Columbia Athletics Website. Columbia Football is wonderful in the way it communicates with its supporters--detailed reports every Monday from Coach Bagnoli and his staff and great interviews and discussions all season long. Not the case with Columbia Men's Basketball. I wonder why.

Al Bagnoli is a great communicator, with the entire Columbia community. His weekly letters are great and he gives plenty of interviews. Engles apparently believes that even a minimal level of communication is outside his job description. And yes, it would be nice to know about the disappearance of Killingsworth, the status of Castlin, etc. All would be forgiven if I saw some positive results on the court. So let’s see if we look any better after this week.
