Connecticut's game notes are up. Same starting lineup. KenPom has UConn as a 12 pt favorite, 78-66. If we don't have a startling upset, let's at least hope we see some evidence of improvement.

Up 15-12with 10to go in first half. Playing well but Smith’s shooting is killing us at 1-7.

41-30 at the half, led by Meisner's 15. Smith is just 1-8, and the odds are against us holding the lead, but so far at least, it is the best we have played this season.

Lose 77-73 overtime. We stopped moving offensively in the second half, and Smith just kept shooting 3 pters. But UConn is 40 slots above anyone in the Il, and we didn't lose the lead until 2:16 left in regulation. So we didn't win, but we do seem to be getting better.

NB Penn lost to Villanova by 28, 13 pts more than Columbia.

Smith and Hickman have to make more shots. Meisner is The Man. Hopefully Castlin gets back soon.

Would Columbia's offense run better with Adlesh at the point than Smith? Does the ball move better with Adlesh at PG?

Meisner was superb. Just needed one other player who could knock down a couple of shots. Or could've used a couple of stops down the stretch during regulation.

On the one hand it was s strong effort against a good team. On the other hand it was a missed opportunity at a nice win.

Smith has taken 84 shots from the field. His overall percentage is .345 Land his three point percentage is .273. He leads the team in minutes . Hickman’s shootimg percentage is .316. Walt’s night was a great effort, but Smith was 4 for 20 and Hickman was 4 for 15. There is the answer as to why we didn’t win.

On Smith vs. Adlesh, Smith is clearly quicker and better at getting to the basket. The problem is that when we are struggling, he is, with a good deal of exaggeration, a 5'11 guard who shoots first. It's not clear to me whether he shoots first because no one is moving, or no one is moving because they expect him to shoot first. Either way, his next developmental step is to learn to run, rather than be, the offense. When he gets ORAT numbers like 57, which he did last night, he really drags us down.

We also need more production from Tape and Faulds. Six pts a night from Tape just won't do it.

And finally, does anyone have any inside info on Castlin? He hurt himself nearly 3 weeks ago. Did he fracture something? Is he done for the season?

A starting lineup with adlesh, smith, castlin, meisner and tape firing on all cylinders would compete for the ivy title this year where the bar is lower than I can remember. Especially if Mason does not make it back. If Mason makes it back, Yale are run away favorites. We certainly have potential, it's being squandered right now and the coaching is mostly to blame. Such low ORATs from Smith and Hickman should be rectified with better training and a more varied offensive strategy. Smith especially is a phenomenal player who is playing very badly at the moment.

Lukas Meisner was sensational last night. If he keeps playing at this level, and the starting five develops some more chemistry, Columbia should have a very good season. More than that, it seems like the four freshmen are beginning to feel more comfortable on the floor. In particular, I would not be surprised at all if Bibbs, and possibly Faulds, start making a bigger impact in the next few games.

Meisner is a legitimate high major D1player who needs to stay healthy. If he can, based upon what I have seen, he will be one of the very best players in the IL this year and next. I really think we need Castlin back on the floor. He will give us more than we can get from Hickman. Smith needs to be coached up. Faulds and Bibbs will be major contributors.

Meisner is clearly ready to be a force. But, he needs to make foul shots!
