I know it is certainly early to look ahead to next season already. Or future seasons. But a quick Q-- Is Nate Sestina a soph or junior this year in terms of his eligibility status?

My understanding is that he has 2 more seasons left and that he's a redshirt soph.

Is that correct? I would love to see two more years and more buckets and boards from Big Country!!

ALSO-- a second question with the future in mind: Would our staff consider bringing in a transfer since we only have one commit so far for next season?

A D2 or D3 player would be eligible right away, correct?

Question re Nate S.

    In response to Doktore K

1. In theory he has two more years of eligibility after this year. His injury was season-ending, so that is not an issue. There are two issues, however:

(a) does he want to return for a 5th year?

(b) will the Bucknell administration sign off on a 5th year? There has to be an academic justification, and the BU administration has been tougher in this area thn any other PL school. It took more than six months to get sign-off for Tyree and Fitz, and it apparently has been almost impossible to bring back football players for a 5th year (unlike every other PL school except Georgetown).

2. Given the current situation, I am sure they would consider a transfer if the right one emerged. But, given the various issues, the transfer would have to be a very good player. Issues:

(a) Would administration/admissions approve one?

(b) Normally anyone transferring to a D1 school, including ones from D2/D3 would have to sit. There are rare exceptions, but that is not common.

(c) Most transfers don't become available until at least March. That would mean holding a scholarship on the chance someone they like who also wants Bucknell becomes available. So if they end up not landing a scholarship, that would mean either carrying the scholarship over for another year or signing a leftover who may not be very good.

(d) Some transfers also become available at the end of first semester. However to bring in one like tht would mean they would have to have a scholarship available right now, which they don't. Years ago, American brought in Vlad at mid-year. By "coincidence", a scholarship player opted to leave at the exact moment in December when they needed a scholarship. Good timing.

One other theoretical option is a juco. A juco would be available immediately, and many qualify under the AI because high school GPA and SAT no longer count. However, again, there could be an issue with the administration/admissions , although Bucknell has had a program targeting juco transfers for a number of years. American has brought in many jucos and Lehigh brought in one this year. Colgate also had one a few years ago.
