Yes, amidst the ruins of out-of-conference season, a neck-twisting turnaround is my fondest dream. Castlin returns, Meisner recovers, Faulds ups his production to 10+ ppg, and with Smith dominating, we slip into 4th place.

It's an unlikely, but not totally impossible, scenario.

  • HARVARDDADGRAD Said:
Beating Penn could be the key to Columbia's tournament run. Put Tape on Broduer. Broduer is key to Penn's offense and shoots 58.8% from the line. Fouls are ok if you use them wisely.

Penn's Rothschild won't be able to keep up with Meisner and isn't much of a scoring threat. Faulds will pick up the scraps, especially when Broduer rests.

Have you seen Penn play at all this year? I'm guessing the answer to that question is 'no.'

Betley is Penns best player. Brodeur had 6 pts in win at Dayton.

Absolutely, just focusing on Columbia's bigs for the moment, and none of them would be assigned to Betley. It's up to Columbia to figure out which guard(s) get assigned to Betley.

Why do you presume Rothschild would guard Meisner?

Didn't really give it that much though.
If Penn goes with AJ & Max, and Columbia goes with Tape and Meisner, not sure how else it would line up. Sam Jones? A freshman?

If AJ guards Meisner, it takes AJ away from the basket.

AJ usually guards the 4. That's how Penn plays this year. Didn't necessarily seem intuitive to me either, but the defense has been a strength this year. Rebounding has been a strength as well (and not a strength for Columbia).

As for the matchups when Brodeur or Rothschild sits, it varies by matchup. Sometimes Betley or Jones is essentially the 4, or sometimes it is Scott (when healthy) or Simmons.

I believe AJ guards Meisner and Max guards Tape if Penn is true to form.

The offense isn't going through Brodeur nearly as much this year with him being shifted to PF. Also, the contention that Rothschild "isn't much of a scoring threat" is simply incorrect. Max has more than doubled his scoring output since last season.

I came here to check in on the aftermath of the BC game and find a hijacked thread.

Columbia posters were lamenting Tape's propensity to foul and I responded to that by observing that if Tape guarded Brodeur, AJ can be a poor free throw shooter. I then assumed that could leave Meisner vs Rothschild. Yes, I acknowledge that stated and embedded therein is a belief that Brodeur is more of an offensive threat than Rothschild.

Damn Harvard guys and their strategery!

Obviously it is also not a situation where whoever guards you, you guard them at the other end. It could well be that Tape guards Brodeur and Rothschild guards Tape on the other end. In fact that's what I would bet will happen.

Sure, but if Brodeur guards Meisner he’ll be drawn away from the basket. Chess game
