Aaron Roussell landed his first commitment in the Class of 2019, 5-8 PG Tai Johnson from Mars PA, a northern suburb of Pittsburgh. Johnson as a soph averaged about 16 ppg against a good schedule. She was 1st team All-District. Looks like Kyi English's replacement.

Roussell has four scholarships to use in this class, and presumably two need to go to post players. The four scholarship players - currently juniors - who will graduate in that class are PF Kaitlyn Slagus, C Maegan Mikkelsen, wing Kate Walker, and PG Kyi English. Also walk-on wing Rachel Dumiak, who is currently starting. That is a difficult class to replace.
Johnson highlight video: http://cbsprt.co/2j9liLK . . Although a right-handed jump shooter, she appears to be ambidextrous when it comes to ball-handling and finishing at the rim.

Looks like a great find. Seems to have the same quickness as English and possibly even better ball handling skills. Big shoes to fill in that class.

Agree. And we have to remember those highlights are from her sophomore year. I think she is better with her left hand then than Kyi is now.

Johnson was the hero tonight in leading her Mars team - "the Fightin' Planets" - to the 5A state championship. They beat perennial power Archbishop Wood by 3 points in Hershey on a 3-point play by Johnson with 4 seconds left. She made a steal in the final seconds, as Wood was holding for the final shot in a tie game, and took it all the way to the basket for a conventional 3-point play. Video of final seconds
Mars, who was #4 in its WPIAL district, knocked off three district champs en route to the title. Wood was looking for a three-peat.

Speaking of the Fightin' Planets, the Mars boys team lost in the state championship to the Abington Heights Comets in an intergalactic battle. Abington Heights senior captain was Jackson Danzig who will play for his father Carl at Scranton next year. Of course, Carl is a former Bison assistant under Woollum and Flannery.

I believe Jackson will be the third Danzig to play for his father at Scranton.

Yes, he will. They specifically noted that on the broadcast.
