To put in perspective - of the players getting major minutes this year for Penn, Brodeur is probably the only one who was a more regarded recruit than Wang.
That's not to say I won't be thrilled when Donahue starts landing more highly regarded recruits.

That's right. If I were to put this into perspective, you should be about as excited about Michael Wang as you are about, say, Jarrod Simmons.
This feels a lot like the Jaron Faulds argument from last year. Saying someone isn't likely to be an instant star (what I think of when I think of a true "4 or 5-star" recruit) doesn't mean they're garbage. There's a ton of room in between. And as others have said - there are fit issues as well, certain pieces are better used by some teams in their offensive schemes (and hidden by their defensive schemes) than others.
But right now, this is looking like a lost class for Penn, which puts a LOT of pressure on 2019.

Speaking of which, are you (or anyone, for that matter) aware of anything cooking out there, or is it way too early?

mrjames, earlier in the season you said that there were still a lot of unsigned Ivy candidates and that we should be patient. It sounds like you think that these candidates won't be coming to Penn? Disappointing recruiting year if so. I agree with your point. A class of 1 player isn't a good one unless that player is a sure thing. There is too much variability in the second tier of good recruits ultimately having an impact.

Saw a few clips of Wang on Twitter from the Palms tournament (one of biggest high school tournaments annually with very high level competition), and was surprised to see some nice post moves. 6'10" and he can hit threes and throw in some post moves against good competition - sounds good to me. Seems like his biggest challenge will be defending, but time will tell and either way looking forward to seeing him in Penn uni. For what it's worth it seems like he is stepping up senior season now that Bol Bol left.

I feel I must apologize for this post, even before I make it, but I can't help myself.
Penn has always wanted to have the biggest Wang in the IVL and now it looks like they will.

Wang has led Mater Dei to the finals of a big high school tournament, the LS Invitational in Oregon. They will play #2 Oak Hill tomorrow night for the championship.
Spencer Freedman (and 2 other kids) missed yesterday's game so Wang had to take an even bigger burden and seemingly did very well. He scored 30 points on 11-22 shooting, 1-3 on 3s, 7-9 FTs, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 0 turnovers. He scored 30 of his teams 71 points in the win to get MD to semi-finals today.
Today he scored 24 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in MDs win over #22 Jefferson from Oregon in a 54-49 win.

Yes, same here as he seems to be having a good senior year. At this point I am most encouraged that he is scoring in a lot of ways besides just 3 pointers.

It seems like he would be the perfect complement to last year's Brodeur. A forward who spaces well, has height, and can shoot. I'm not sure if it's as good of a complement for what Donahue is asking Brodeur to do this year.

If Mr. Wang is as good as we hope, I’m confident Mr. Donahue will figure out how to use him in combination w. Mr. Brodeur.

This site offers California high school basketball games. Here is where you can find archived games, which you can filter by selecting "Sport" "California" and "Basketball" from the drop-down menus.
And at this location you can enter Mater Dei High School of Santa Ana and purchase a subscription to upcoming games. Mater Dei's schedule can be found here if you select 2017-18 for "year," "Basketball, Boys" for Sport, and "Varsity" for Level.
If anybody watches a live game or finds a link to an archived game, please let us know about Michael Wang.

Better news: Wang played earlier this week and went for 20 and 9 in a Mater Dei win. He is also playing tonight and they are up big at the half.
