Here are the average game scores by month for each Ivy team. As per usual, Harvard and Princeton decided to start playing real basketball in December after treating November like a throwaway:

Year MthYr Ivy mean
2018 2017/12 pennsylvania 71.36667
2018 2017/12 harvard 67.53333
2018 2017/12 princeton 60.02000
2018 2017/11 yale 54.78750
2018 2017/11 pennsylvania 53.23750
2018 2017/11 columbia 52.10000
2018 2017/12 yale 48.40000
2018 2017/12 brown 45.70000
2018 2017/11 princeton 43.85000
2018 2017/11 brown 36.03333
2018 2017/11 harvard 35.10000
2018 2017/11 cornell 34.38333
2018 2017/12 dartmouth 32.46000
2018 2017/12 cornell 30.53333
2018 2017/12 columbia 26.88000
2018 2017/11 dartmouth 20.23333

Here are the top wins, sorted by the Game Score you get for beating the opponent by 1 (i.e., irrespective of margin). As you can see, Princeton's win is the best, but the Top 9 wins are comprised of two each for HYPP and one Cornell win.

Finally here are all of the games with Game Scores for this year... what's most interesting is that where the league is struggling this year is not so much in strong performances against very, very good teams, it's in holding serve for Ws against some mediocre to terrible teams:

Penn's Monmouth win and Princeton's USC win should probably get an asterisk given that Monmouth was missing its best player and USC was missing....well, a whole bunch of regulars.

Columbia currently has the 11th worst record in Division 1 CBB, but is justifiably ranked higher - 225th in KenPom, 5th in Ivy League. Of the 10 squads with worse records, only Texas Southern (0-13) is ranked higher at KP 211. The other 9 squads are ranked at KP#336 or lower.

Texas Southern remains the favorite to win the Southern Conference!

Beware of the Lions!

I suspect that almost any Ivy would get a boost from even the last five subs at the end of the USC bench.

Not disputing that, but the guys on the floor did not constitute a Top 35 KenPom or whatever it was team out there.

I mean heck, Boatwright alone scored 33 out of the team's 77 points last night in defeating a very good Aggie team that had just upset Miami.

Hey, not my fault that USC has a Boatwright of talent.

How about I concede that USC might Have won with Boatwright and you concede that Princeton beat Penn this fall in football because a replay clearly disclosed that Princeton scored a legitimate touchdown on its final series that was erroneously called back by an official who mistakenly ruled that the receiver stepped out of bounds before catching a touchdown pass. Otherwise no more shoulda coulda woulda. What's so important to you about this, anyway? Did your smart and evil brother in law go to Princeton?

Actually, USC beat Akron without Boatwright doing anything at all--he was ejected. The other guys also missing against PU made it more serious for them.

But I've now seen USC play a bunch of times, and up until this tournament they were not consistent game to game. SMU battered them with a full complement. (The only thing that they are amazingly consistent about, starting last season, is coming back from deficits.) And they had no talent shortage against the Tigers, what with McLaughlin, Stewart, Metu, and the big Euro guy plus a fleet of high-level recruits coming off the bench.

Valid point that Boatwright is a very good player and would have presented match up problems for the Tigers.

Another valid point is that Penn scheduled a much tougher game than Kenpom's #351 Mississippi State (0-13) and instead decided to challenge themselves with #349 Delaware State as they wanted to push the envelope but you are probably correct that USC was not a top #35 team in the OT loss to the Tigers.

No. He landed on his shoulders which were out of the end zone and his knees were not down.

I was literally watching this in slow mo yesterday when cleaning the DVR and not one replay showed a clear reception. Did you have a different replay not shown on tv? Something from behind the goalposts? Did the official claim after the game that he ruled that he stepped out? I didn't see a beanbag thrown.

The criticism about this game continues to make me laugh when Princeton does what they do each year. If you're going to take a shot, at least get it right. The team is Mississippi Valley St.

CollegeInsider.com has mid-major basketball polls (M&W).

No Ivy is in the top 25, and only Penn picks up votes at what would be #38. Strange that Princeton has been excluded. Also note that Wofford (#13) and Vermont (#16) are firmly in the list. Bodes well for Harvard.

Many other Ivy opponents appear as well.
