This is more or less what the advanced metrics would indicate. The question is whether Princeton should be purely evaluated based on the last 6. That would make Princeton a favorite. The eyes tend to say that the recent play means the most, though the numbers tend to say that a longer look smoothes away what may just be a little hot streak.

To me, regardless of whether Princeton should be favored by a couple, this is a game that could go either way. I actually think it could be a decisive victory in either direction as well. It's been a while since this game really realistically mattered for both teams, so I am excited (and I welcome the trepidation that comes with it mattering more).

Yea, Penn was playing pretty well for a stretch and then laid an egg vs Toledo in 1 half.

Early line has Penn favored by 2.

Wow, you are easily trepidated - if that isn't a word it should be. Everything has changed with the tournament. So relax and sit back and enjoy the scrimmage. It's always fun to beat Princeton and I have a ton of confidence that we do win this one. But it's just become one of the games to get us to eight wins to make the tournament. Save your trepidation for March 10/11. Those are the games we need to win.

Yes. Fourth place is all that matters.

In terms of the program, defeating Princeton is something you need to do to get to the next level.

It's the #1 goal any incoming Penn coach should have when assuming the position: BEAT PRINCETON.

We're no longer an embarrassment. Check.
We got to the IL tourney. Check.
BEAT PRINCETON. EARLY AND OFTEN.

Check, please....

In terms of if this game has mattered in awhile, I think if Matt Howard had hit a free throw with 12 seconds to go last March, our furry friends would say our last game mattered a great deal

If I could only have one, I'd prefer to win the league championship and yield the right to a 12+ seed to someone else.

I think you are correct in that these games are difficult to predict.

My biggest Penn concern remains FT shooting. I thought the Toledo game would go down to the wire but our poor late game FT shooting let them get on top of us. Of course it got worse when they continued to hit 3's, shots we probably would have welcomed that they take under a different scenario. It's likely Princeton will make late game FTs - but can Penn match them? It's a concern.

That's really interesting. You'd rather win the 14 game tournament than the 2 game post-season tournament. As much as I dislike the latter, I'd rather advance to the dance. Winning the league regular season but not getting to advance would be hugely frustrating.

Not that it's a fair trade, but doesn't the league winner get a spot in the NIT if it loses the tournament?

People have asked this question before. As far as I know, it's just some bizarre urban myth, right up there with alligators in the NY sewers and people putting rat hairs in halloween candy.

I think the reason SM thinks it is legend is because prior to last year, the loser in the Ivy playoff game did not get an NIT berth. But the Ivy playoff was not considered a conference tournament under the NIT consolation rules. Now we have one.

the idea that someone would prefer to not have the bid and instead "win" the 14 game tournament is precisely why Trump won and the only way we'll survive as a conference and nation is if you people die.

What a stupid hot take. This is why our football season is meaningless garbage less relevant than high school football.

If you don't want the tourney, that's separate. But to prefer not to win it...

So there ARE alligators in the sewers? Does this also mean that homeopathy isn't nonsense?

I don't know what's real anymore.

I think, Jeff, that that is pure hyperbole coming from a Princeton fan who expects to win the regular season and then choke as they almost did last year in the playoff.

On behalf of the Quakers, I accept this deal. Now we just need the other conference contenders to agree.
