Simmons also has excellent shooting form. Some of our guards could learn a thing or two from it.

That is what I think went on strategically. I just think keeping Betley in motion makes more Princeton's choices more complicated. He may get in the way of other guys getting to the basket, and he may allow Bell to double or otherwise cause some havoc, but I'd still prefer to make Princeton make those choices, rather than coming to a gentleman's agreement that we're just going to play the 2nd half with our best scorer and their best defender standing together in the corner.
Of course, it worked (or at least worked well enough). Just not the choice I would have made. That's why I coach 8th graders and Steve coaches division 1 athletes.

I think the comment by Donahue that, "I’m a big analytics guy. Nobody on our team has more than a 22 percent usage rate at the end of a possession," is really the reason for what happened. If Princeton is going to put its best defensive player on Betley, then we'll move the ball around to different players.
For the first time since 2007, we have 5 starters who are legitimate 2 way basketball players. If they want to key on someone, the other guys will beat you. The only question is foul shots, and all we can do is hope that that will improve.

Has anybody else noticed that, in the last-- Oh, I don't know-- five games, the team seems to have figured out how to exploit double teams?

How long have we been crying for our big men to dish to open men (that being said, DNH is prospering in Europe--and still never dishes--- http://basketball.eurobasket.com/team/Austria/UBSC... )

To be fair, it not just on the guy in the middle. You need other players to either get in the right spot on the perimeter at the right moment, or to correctly time a cut to the basket and be ready to receive a pass.

I think this team is starting to get it. AJ and Max are both great passers. When they get it and others cut, good things happen. Darnell, Antonio, Jarrod and Betley all did that in the game and scored as a result.

Congratulations again to the Quakers.
Donahue was fully aware of Princeton's Achilles heel which is interior defense. Princeton has no interior defense and Penn exploited that especially in the second half. Last year we had Peter Miller who was a very good interior defender. This year we have no one and Mitch Henderson is going to have to solve that problem. Otherwise Penn is going to destroy Princeton on the interior next time. As much as I like Freshman Much, he is only 6'8" and is a below average defender. Yet he starts at Center.

Much's problem isn't that he's only 6-8. Brodeur and Rothschild are both 6-8 as well. The problem is that Much simply isn't an interior player. He really seems like a wing. Brodeur and Rothschild are both inside bangers by mentality, and have the skills to go with that.

Of course, they tried doubling down to help in the first half and the result was 19 points for Betley. With a zone/double destroyer like Betley, it does create matchup problems for Princeton.
Cannady is really good though.

You are correct. Much is a wing not a center. That he started at center is evidence of the lack inside presence. He is going to be an elite player, but as a wing.
Princeton has had a problem with interior defense from day one. Gladson just came back from injury and played in his first game. Maybe they start Gladson at center with Much on the wing.
The tigers will continue to have a problem with interior defense

I wasn't that far off. If Pr loses, they will be in a 3 way tie for 3rd (so in a way, in 5th )
Tonight we knocked them into last place. In a month, maybe we can knock them into 5th?
Let’s do this again real soon.
Exactly one month from now works for me.

Cannady played close to 90 minutes over the weekend. I'd try to run him into the ground.

Nope. It's listed as ESPNU. Don't think you'll get it there if U is not in your cable package.
