Sidebar, but anyone notice that Dunphy's Temple team that shot out of the gate and had a few big wins has completely tanked? They've lost their first 4 league games to fall to last place and really bottomed out today scoring 39 points in 21 point loss at UCF.

On Twitter and their message board, it looks like even the biggest Dunphy defenders have given up. Will be curious to see how the rest of their season pans out. It's been a while since we've beaten them, so wouldn't mind if they continue to struggle for a few weeks and then get themselves all sorted out after our game, haha.

I wonder if Fran regrets leaving Penn.

I'm sure he has done much better financially.

I am sure that he does not regret it. He has had some very good years at Temple. And remember, the team he left had virtually no blue chip players below the seniors---he would have had to recruit an entirely new team as did Miller. He very likely saw it as a good time to move on---in addition, the AD was a big problem.

Just saw that The Mensch's team just pulled a huge road upset against SMU. Maybe too soon to be writing his Owl epitaph. SMU had a home winning streak of 33 games and was going for their program record.

Yeah... still feeling like the end. Just lost to Memphis at home (when they were like an 8-10 point favorite), a game they just had to win.

Temple just pulled one out against Tulsa after trailing for a long time. Good coaching job to use up all the fouls and leave Tulsa with 3.3 secs to run a play. The Temple fans should be careful what they wish for.

Considering that SMU just upset Wichita State on the road, and Memphis is looking a bit better, haste in firing Dunphy seems even less reasonable.

Boy is it hard to gauge this Temple team. They got off to a great start beating some ranked teams, then went totally cold without any major injuries that I can see, and maybe righted themselves last night just in time to play us. They have good size and length in the backcourt, and most of their points/minutes (save for Rose) come from experienced upperclassmen who can shoot and make FTs. They will pose matchup issues for Penn.

Despite all that, this game is winnable and would be our best win as they look to be the best big 5 team not named Villanova - in fact, all four feel pretty close in quality to me at this stage ranging from KP 94 (Temple) to 130 St. Joe (just beat Dayton at home soundly) to 150 LaSalle to 151 Penn.

If by chance we win, does that put Dunphy back on the hot seat?

Yes, it would.

So would you rather beat Temple and lose to Harvard or vice versa? In the old days, you'd take the Ivy win.

I think if Temple does not make the Tournament (looking unlikely unless they win the AAC tournament), Dunph will be asked to retire after this season.

Agreed. Their has got to be a lot North Broad angst over Nova's success.

I think I'd still take the Ivy win. Fortunately, it doesn't work that way.

A silly choice. As I'm sure Dunph would agree, there's no "choice" - you win them both!

I would love to beat Temple, but I would not love to see Dunph lose his job. He was clearly a good man and a good coach.

I sympathize with that sentiment. However, if the roles were reversed, I'm certain that Dunphy would give no quarter. And I seriously doubt he expects Donahue to do so.

Of course. I would just be sad to see him lose his job. My sense is he did pretty well for them for many years. It a tricky job, as Temple has higher expectations than perhaps they should feel entitled to going forward.

I would have loved to see him build a juggernaut at Temple, but I don't think he's the type of person who would press all of the ethical buttons to make that happen a la Pitino and Calipari.
