Seem tentative around the basket right now. Lot of shots either too hard off the rim or not hard enough.
The classic sign of someone worried about getting blocked.

@DNTattle tweet from earlier:
Approx. 45 Penn STUDENTS, members of @PennBand, stand around for first half of @PennBasketball game vs. @TempleBasktball as Palestra pipes in canned music. Ridiculous. It’s not the Wells Fargo Center. #dumptheDJ

Doubt that was the play. Probably the play broke down and Darnell did what he could.
It was right out of a timeout, Darnell got it at the top of the key, wasted 4 seconds (I guess looking for someone off a screen) and then drove aimlessly. Maybe start with it in Betley hands instead? When option 2 is a Darnell drive I have to question the call.
AJ cannot continue these righthand forces. Every team knows it and he had THREE Temple players waiting for him when he turned into the middle. I can't get past it. He could be such a better player. How did he go all high school without it?
It was out of a timeout, that's correct. AJ set a screen for Betley who was moving to get open and then cut to the wing off the screen. Darnell was likely supposed to hit Betley or AJ on the dive. Both were covered and he had no other option on the play so he had to drive. I think a little credit to Temple's defense is in order at some point.

The call on AJ was away from the ball action. He was in the post and the pass went from Darnell to Wood on the wing. To make a call in that situation it really better be egregious. ILDN didn't pick it up.

But don't you think Temple knew that was coming too? If time is of the essence, why not start with it in Ryan's hands and let him create? They're going to deny the three so I'd rather ryan drive or maybe pull up from real deep.

At one point Steve was even trying to pump up the students. They need to learn how to cheer. In fairness, Temple didn't exactly bus in the students.

College basketball is bands.
College basketball is cheerleaders.
College basketball is not #%$@ DJs at timeouts.
Also, what is with this utterly classless rollout produced by Penn fans?

Ryan's game is to move without the ball and get open. He does not create that much off the dribble off an inbounds play. And when he got the ball today off a screen he was doubled quickly. That's just not our offense. You get it to your point guard and run the play. The defense stopped it.

Frustrating but end of day Temple played very good defense and we shot maybe as poorly as we have all year?
The fact that we took a lead with mins to go and with a few diff breaks could have won is definitely a testiment to how hard this team plays. Still just don't have the players to quite get over the hump. Hopefully losing another close big 5 loss is a learning experience and can find a way to win one next week.
Still, I feel obliged to question decision to never bring in Sam Jones when no one could make shots and instead bring a really inexperienced player who went 0-5 in a shooting role...

Most of the guys couldn't get open against Temple's length. Sam can't get open against that team so tough to have him out there.

I'm not questioning your judgment on that - it could very well be correct - but we don't know because Donahue doesn't put Jones in the game.
Curious that Silpe got as much of a run out as he did. Mijakowski too.

Band and cheerleaders have a difficult time with the AWFUL and BLARING disco music at most time outs and the UNBELIEVABLY LOUD announcer of the various contests. Both of these (music and announcer) NEED TO GO - this is the Palestra - no need for low minor league distractions.

Does he have to put him in to know he can't get open against those guys? I don't know.
Kuba and Jake have been killing it in practice from what I hear and have been running with the top unit for a bit. We may see more of them. Kuba took a couple very good shots that were in/out.

Ouch, after that game our offense is down to 6th best in the Ivy via Kenpom, only better than Harvard and Brown in efficiency. Here's to hoping for a big regression to the mean next weekend.

I agree that Kuba took some good shots that just didn't fall. He kind of reminds me of Dan Moncton a bit.

Great to hear he is playing well in practice as is Silpe (and Silpe had some great moments today). And that said I hope Kuba gets more mins if he earns them - I also thought he took some good shots that rimmed out. But we had a guy on the bench who has won games for us with 3s, and he didn't get into the game until 20 secs left or something like that. If Jones can get his shot off against Dayton, why not against Temple? I'm not saying anything would have gone differently, but just a little odd he didn't get a chance at any real bench minutes.

That came from the classless Temple "fans." One of those morons has been trolling this board.

I found that rollout appalling (and I used to create Penn's rollouts back in the day) and classless. Do these kids have any idea how GREAT a coach Fran was for Penn and how well the program did during his tenure? As someone else would say, "SAD"!
