Magnificent basketball game with insane outside shooting by first Columbia and then Dartmouth. Everyone on both teams played wonderfully, but at the end of the day, one man was the difference, and that was Columbia's Kyle Castlin. It's an understatement to describe Castlin as a "smart basketball player." I hope he becomes a college basketball coach.

A workman-like first half, followed by, for the first 15 minutes of the second half, a movie that we have seen many times before, in which Columbia blows a double-digit lead. But Castlin is finally playing the way we knew a healthy Castlin could, and he saved the game

We are supposed to lose the next 4 games. Win one against Brown or yale away next weekend, and/or the Ps the following weekend at home, and a scrambled Il race could get interesting.

Castlin was lights out. Even though he didn’t start he played 30 minutes to Hickman’s 14. Interesting to see him matched up against Dartmouth’s very excellent Wright, who nosed him out for ROY four years ago. Strong games from Meisner, Adlesh and of course Smith, whose Chicago fan base/family had a ball this weekend. Tape did a nice job on the boards. My own take is that Datmouth’s three point game kept this from being a 10/15 point win, which is how it was looking for a while. As far as the next four games, the Harvard game convinced me that we have the talent to beat anybody if we play our game.

Fortunately for Columbia, Castlin had the smarts to realize that Brendan Barry was unguarded behind the 3-point line just before Dartmouth's final foul shot and Castlin moved over to guard him. Otherwise, Barry would have had an easy three point shot to tie the game.

I woke up this morning with the feeling that we dodged a bullet last night after letting a 15 point lead disappear. Kyle Castlin is one very, very good, smart player. Is it time for him to start, or does it make sense to bring him in at the 15 minute mark? I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but we really aren’t getting much production from Hickman.
