Thomas fouled no one at 3:06 in OT. It’s joke officiating.....then Thomas is being clubbed on the floor at 2:35 and the whistle is swallowed.

The refs are anticipating fouls that don’t happen

Not sure how that wasn't a shot clock violation but we'll take the win. Great defense by Avi

Well the good news is we were good enough to survive a sloppy performance and awful officiating.

A win is a win but if we make 3 efforts like that in the PLT, there is no way we win it

I also think HC forgot about the shot clock being less than the game clock there. Evidently the refs forgot as well.

I know I will hear the narrative that we already have #1 seed sewn up and officiating was poor, but how many times in PL play has Bucknell been flat and not ready to play? All of those games were before we had #1 seed in hand. Gotta be something to it, although most will say that is negative thought.

I really feel the refusal to change the offense and defense is hurting the team this year. We all have talked on this board about inconsistency with the team. Bucknell is a team with a ton of experience and when they go up against a very young team and the struggles continue you have to scratch your head and wonder why there is very little or no change on both sides of the ball. I am very concerned that if this trend continues into the tournament it could be a short run and off to the NIT. I am not trying to be a downer but I am being honest.

There is a collective flatness yet I sense individually they are all serious young men and ready to play. I genuinely believe though horrific officiating is a great equalizer. The very nature of heavy handed and inconsistent officiating means there are erroneous outcomes relative to the ability of both teams. Bucknell is a rhythm team and constant whistles prevent a game flow.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. We need to score in transition to be successful. There's no such thing as transition baskets when every possession ends in a foul.
Defense was not the issue today. Scoring was the issue, poor 3 point shooting in particular. I don't know what's wrong with Zach, but his 3-pt shooting has been atrocious for the last month.
There was nothing good about this game except the result.

.
Zach is 1-14 on threes over the last three games - and he has generally not shot the threes well - especially the long ones - for the past 15 PL games. What is worrisome is that on the longer threes, the misses are almost never straight - almost always off to one side. Misses that are straight but barely long or short aren't as big a concern, as the shooting form is likely fine.

Zach was shooting 48% OOC and is shooting 27% in PL games. Interestingly, he didn't take an attempt against Loyola.

No fgs by either team in OT. Both teams got two free throws. Zach made his, Butler missed one. Bucknell wins OT 2-1. Take your pick: woeful offense or brilliant defense.

I’m sure perhaps you can describe it as flatness, but I believe you also have to factor in that playing the Bison is the marquee, mark it on your calendar game, for everybody we play in league. Especially when it’s a home game for the opponent. I don’t care if it’s PL, Big 10, or ACC, winning on the road when you’re the top dog is tough. To only have lost 1 on the road, and that in ot, is something to celebrate despite the occasional ugliness of the victory.

Please excuse my language but UNFROCKING believable the broadcast cut out. That’s egregious.
Without knowing the final score, I just watched on demand, and the video cut to baseball highlights with about 2-3 seconds left in regulation. Mrs. Bison89 is not happy. I started yelling at 6:15am.
BTW, the Bizon were flat, flat, flat. I'll say it yet again, Coach Davis needs to light a fire under these guys. They desperately need his guidance to achieve to their potential.
New season, new team, new dream . . . |
