Remarkable 4 game homestand. After a brutal OOC performance, the team manages 3 comfortable wins against the 3 other teams that figured to be the best before the 14 game tournament started. Never felt like Brown was going to win, and the team finished that one nicely when the starters were reinserted. Just feels like a great team effort with the defense causing all sorts of trouble for the other teams. Get the feeling that the relentless nature of the defense is causing the opponents to shoot poorly even when they get the rare open shoots.

The performance is even more remarkable given Aiken’s absence and Corey Johnson shooting 3-13 from 3 for a total of14 points. Still can’t explain it and keep hoping for better. I do believe his improved defense has helped make up for the shooting struggle.

Towns has been what he was advertised to be on offense. He can do it all. His defense has been much improved and his intensity level has been night and day from OOC play. Indeed,
as HARVARDDADGRAD has noted, the whole team’s intensity level has been extraordinary recently. Does feel like the camaraderie has changed. Perhaps winning does that.

Lewis is a weapon no one else has, and the team is using him. Only foul trouble can stop him. And Welsh has given some useful minutes, particularly in the first half.

Obviously Juzang has filled a big void nicely. 19-40 from the field (9-22 from 3), with 19 assists and 9 TOs. Missed all of 4 minutes. His defense has been even better.

Bassey has been driving the ball well and opening things up quite a bit. Sometimes making one pass too many, contributing to his 9 assist to 9 turnover ratio. His increased involvement in the offense, combined with his rebounding, defense and heavy workload in terms of minutes, has been key to the team’s success. I’m sold on Bassey after being critical of him earlier in the year.

Next weekend should be interesting. PP road trip is never easy. Lost both last year in two tough losses. Princeton is capable of performing better (as they did during most of the Cornell game) and Penn will no doubt try a different approach against Lewis.

Can hope for some time this weekend for Aiken. Would give Juzang some breathers and allow Bryce to work himself back to game readiness over two weekends. Still think Bryce will make a big contribution before the season ends.

Most importantly, let’s win the 14 game tournament and an Ivy League championship. The Palestra weekend would be a bonus with a very tough NCAA seed to deal with if we win.
