That's brilliant. It's what we've been trying to express all year put into a stat---we simply are taking great shots even though we don't have great shooters and are stopping the other team from taking great shots.
That is GREAT coaching.

We are the anti-Henry Brooks team. We simply don't take those jumpers anymore. Most of our 2 point shots are close to the hoop.

I heard from a guy who knows one of the assistant coaches that every player on the team knows exactly what shots he is, and is not, allowed to take, and it's totally different for every player. One of the main ways guys play themselves into or out of the rotation is by respecting this rule.
I suspect that they also know exactly what shots they want to allow and deny for opposing players.

See the shots that Woods was allowing Towns to take on Saturday and the ones he worked more actively to deny.

Is Brodeur still allowed to take 3-pointers? Or has that been shelved for the season?

Well, he has taken 1 in each of the last 4 games (missed them all), so take that for what you will. Indeed, the last time he failed to take a 3 point shot was all the way back in Estero against UMKC

Maybe that's the rule: "OK AJ, you get to take one, and only one, three per game, just to keep 'em honest. Otherwise just keep launching up those pretty little jump hooks."

I think it's "You get to take only one, unless you make it", which might explain that 6-12

There's a difference between taking a wide open 3 on the arc line vs. one that is contested or farther out. Guys like AJ, Antonio and Darnell probably have a green light if not defended, a yellow light otherwise. Ryan and Caleb probably have wider latitude to take their shots.

AJ is rarely, if ever defended at the arc. He could take 10 wide open ones if he wanted.

Not so. Only some teams give him the first one for free. If he makes a couple, they come out on him. This is why I like to see him take one early in the game - when he makes them, it opens up the lane for Max and the cutters, and makes the fake credible if he decides to bring it down and drive the lane.

There's also a difference between having some separation and having enough time to set - particularly for AJ, who needs more time to set than others.
You can almost see AJ, Antonio and Darnell go through the thought process early in the clock - they will pass up shots when they don't think they can fully set. Darnell used to get too frisky on the 3's when he made a couple, he doesn't anymore (the secret behind Colin's Rule). Antonio and AJ sometimes get too frisky but have been better at resisting the temptation. Dev is hopefully following along.

that may be true if he took more than 1, which we haven't seen in 5 games. In fact, since going 6-12 at home vs Columbia 11 games ago he has taken 15 in the last 9 game took 8 in the 2 games before that. Even in the Columbia game, they never came out and guarded him. Teams are not worried about AJ at the arc.

Thus they leave him open. As I said, he took 12 uncontested vs Columbia and could take 10 in almost any other game if he wanted.

Teams have been more wary of his shot from the top of the key since that Columbia game.
