He's a curmudgeon. I know.

Look at it this way. Under the old rules, we would have had a one game playoff with Harvard at a neutral site. Instead, we have to play 2 games at home. This year is very similar to 1996, when a missed Ira Bowman FT at Dartmouth cost us an outright title and we then we had to play a playoff game (we lost in OT to Princeton at Lehigh). This year, some missed FTs and a brain dead end of game strategy cost us a 1 point loss at Yale and we ended in a tie. If we win the playoff, EVERYONE will consider this a true title and deserving of the banner.

So let's just win and end any controversy.

I wonder where the neutral site would have been? Columbia?

It is my recollection that the Ivy League adopted a policy after 2012. If Penn had defeated Princeton in the final game of the 2012 season, the playoff game against Harvard would have been at Quinnipiac (a very nice arena).

Soon thereafter, the policy was set: All playoff games not involving Penn (e.g. Harvard vs. Yale in 2015) would be at the Palestra. Playoff games involving Penn, but not Princeton would be at Jadwin. Playoff games between Penn and Princeton would be at Newman Arena, Ithaca (the 3rd largest capacity Ivy venue).

Under the pre-tournament rules, Penn and Harvard would be having a playoff game at Jadwin.

Why all the negativity here? If you had told me in November that Penn would go 22-8 (12-2) and tie for the title, I'd be thrilled. Even the Friday Night Fiasco does not change that. Penn gets a chance to avenge that next weekend at 'home'. I remember well when anything less than an outright title (which usually meant sweeping PU) was what we demanded, but times have changed. I feel pretty good about our chances next week, I also think that, barring an upset where neither of the top 2 seeds wins, whomever does not win goes to the NIT.

I like to think of it as getting rid of all the bad luck. If the team had won the conference regular season outright but lose in the tournament, everyone would still be crushed.

So, somebody who was at the Brown game told me there was chatter in the stands among the Penn fans that Mike Martin had said some things that got put up on Penn's locker room bulletin board. Anybody know anything about this?

Wonder who Mike's dad was complaining about after this one. Rough few weeks for that guy...
