The only downside is that Cornell is coached by Brian Earl.

Let's hope the outcomes are both reversed.

On the officiating front, tonight’s crew had 27, 16, and ... 4! games of D-I experience this season coming into the game.

If what some people are saying here is true, we are NOT Ivy champs. If we are Ivy champs, then Harvard does not get the trophy tonight and they are not guaranteed an NIT bid. There are a lot of people just saying things, but this is an objective fact and there must be an answer. If the tiebreaker determines the champion, then the Ivy rule must have changed.

And Donahue should be ashamed of that ridiculous fouling strategy that cost us the Yale game.

Given the team we have, you never want to get put into a FT shooting contest. I had remarked several times during the season that it was only a matter of time before the FT shooting would cost us a game. It did, and sadly cost us an outright title and guaranteed postseason berth.

According to the Penn team and Inquirer article, Penn is the champion. I think we need clarification of the NIT situation.

At best, Penn is co-champion. It certainly isn't THE champion.

My friends.

My understanding (and Stan Pawlak's on the radio) is that Penn and Harvard are considered co-champions, and both will get banners to hang. Harvard's getting the #1 seed in the Ivy tournament does at least guarantee them an NIT bid, but Penn's getting the 2nd seed guarantees them nothing. The tournament is only to determine who represents the Ivy League in the NCAA Tournament.

And finally, I agree with you about SD's fouling strategy late in the game last night. I simply couldn't believe he was doing that. That loss really stung. Kudos to the team for bouncing back tonight, even though the end was a little hairy (again).😱

And here is the text in question, taken from the official NIT site:

https://www.ncaa.com/championships/basketb all-men/...

Any regular-season champion of an NCAA Division I conference (as determined by the conference’s tie-break protocol) not otherwise selected to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship will secure an automatic qualification into the NIT. The committee will then select the best available teams to fill the 32-team NIT field. Once selected teams are seeded and placed into one of four eight-team regions.

The team could not have posed with that banner if they were not officially Ivy League champs. Obviously the league has sanctioned the title according to its rules. Despite that, I feel no joy in that regard because I don't consider us (or Harvard) champs. The ILT will determine the champ in my opinion. If it turns out to be someone other than Penn or Harvard, it will bring further embarrassment to the league administration.

Congrats to the Quakers. Ivy League Champs!!!

Great run for the title. Don’t worry about These old farts. Hang the banner, celebrate the title, tell your recruits and keep on going. Now some more work to do.

Nice one.

Maybe if you had experienced a real championship (or a dozen of them), you would feel differently about this one. It's resl hard to be happy after last night. We have a chance to make up for it next weekend. I'll be happy then.

You have no idea what I have or have not experienced. What I know is these players and coaches, and their school, are celebrating the first Ivy title in 11 years. What we think, or have experienced in the past, is meaningless relative to that.

And just because some administrators in a room came up with some crazy tiebreak to determine the 1 seed for the UPCOMING games, does not devalue the accomplishment of 12-2 in the regular season, something that is very hard to do in this league.

I graduated in 2010, and was there in 2007 as a freshman cheering hard for Ibby, Zoller, Danley, and the rest. Kinda makes your argument mediocre, doesn't it? Yeah, I'm not pleased we aren't outright champions, but it took a game in Cambridge on a Saturday at 4:00 as the 5th game in 9 days and a poor ref job in New Haven to keep us from an undefeated Ivy slate. Not a big fan of moral victories and there's still more work to be done, but don't be such a stick in the mud. Why can't you be happy that the turnaround has gone faster than ANY of us could have ever thought it would?
