Agreed that questioning who plays and who doesn't is a perfectly reasonable and worthwhile endeavor, but is today really the time for this? Dismantling the #3 team in the league seems like a reason for any Penn fan to celebrate (and at least for today, it is hard to question the results of playing time decisions the coach makes).
I also suspect PF10 is right, and Donahue's re-emergence is matchup based. I think they think he matches well with Brown (why he played last week), and today it was clear that they had very specific combos where they wanted Donahue in the game. Just as there have been specific situations in the 2nd half of the season where they thought Jake was a good matchup.

Man, that was a hell of a fun game. Most impressed by the defense on the Yale guards and by the fact that we scored 80 points despite shooting only 7 of 22 3s for 32%.
Harvard will be much tougher but let’s try to do it all again tomorrow anyway. Let’s Go Quakers!

That was the dismantling of a team that's better than they looked yesterday. Aside from Atkinson, who we can't stop, everyone else on Yale was contained.
That may have been Brodeur's best game on offense. And it wasn't like Yale was ignoring him, he was bodied all game.
Ball movement was fantastic - it has to be when Foreman-Woods go a combined 7-9 from the field.
I thought Rothschild was chippy but then again it was against Yale.
Penn won rebounding 43-22. Also went 15-16 from the stripe.
No one played more than 30 minutes - that's good as today's game should be intense. We should force Lewis (30 minutes) and Juzang (35) to work. On the TV broadcast Damien Cuff commented that Brodeur runs the court well all game while Lewis can't - that's something we need to exploit.

Getting Atkinson to pick up that second foul is where the game really turned. I didn't like all the calls, but for the most part the refs let them play yesterday. I sincerely hope that's the case today, because foul trouble either way could have a huge impact. I wonder who Princeton fans are rooting for.

Disagree on one point. Yale never doubled AJ. Turned out to be fatal.

No. He was a great high school player who could be a really good college player if given a little more time on the court. I can appreciate Devon’s athleticism and speed. I follow the stats on the Penn website and i just don’t see how that translates to marked improvement from Devon to Jake. Not offensively for sure.
But today isn’t the day to debate this and out of respect for the Penn fans, I won’t.

PN - true but the early back to back 3's by Woods and Brodeur discouraged Jones from packing the paint.
And it's not like AJ's shots weren't defended - most of his shots were turn-arounds and baby hooks from several feet out.
I do think Atkinson's early fouls played a huge role.
The totally demoralizing play for Yale was the and-1 put back by MacDonald. If you want to know why Matt is a co-captain, check out how nuts the Penn bench went after that play. Brodeur was desperately looking for someone to high five or hug.

AJ tailed off last year when Ivy teams began double teaming him. They realized that he simply could not be defended effectively by one person.
This year AJ has gotten much better at passing out of the double team, as has the whole squad. Still you have to wonder why Jones did not at least try this and force someone else to beat his team.

We now have three years of observations on Jake Silpe. The jury has been out for a long time. Great passer, poor shooter and ordinary defensive player. If he gets time next year Penn will not be as good as it is this year with Darnell. On the otherhand, Devon is already better at going to the hole, better on D and almost as good a passer. He has a significant upside with just a bit more judgement and better outside shooting. Can he do it? Don't know. Does Jake have an upside like that? Nope.

Losing Foreman and Wood next year, so quite a few minutes to replace, and a different mix. So Jake has an opportunity next year.

With Jelani Williams healthy, it will be very hard for Jake to get serious minutes.
Let's face it, the primary difference this year was replacing the off guard combo of Jake and Jackson with Antonio and Caleb. Our guard play this year was tremendous, on both offense and defense.

I think the most likely scenario is that Williams and Goodman take the minutes. But I assume there will be competition. Donahue may have a leg up to replace Caleb’s shooting.
