Personally, I want to avoid the best coached teams who could break down our tape and game plan against our strengths in 3 days. In my opinion that means I want nothing to do with the Zags or Michigan (although Michigan could be rusty coming off the very early Big Ten tourney).

Auburn (loss to Alabama) likely has played their way out of the 3 seed. Hope we get to 13 and maybe get them anyway.

Auburn lost, and Jerry Palm has us playing Tennessee now. Wonder how many more times that will change.

San Diego state is killing Nevada. They lead by 31 with 13:30 to play.

Middle Tenn St goes down tonight

That's a good start. Now need Western Kentucky and ODU to lose. One of them will lose in the semi later today since they play each other. Then need the other to lose in the final, likely to Marshall. Marshall would likely get a worse seed than the Bison but not certainly. Their semi opponent, Southern Mississippi, would get a very low seed should they win - but that is not likely.

Marshall will play Western Kentucky in the C-USA championship tomorrow. A Marshall win would help the Bison chance for a 13 seed.

Jerry Palm’s latest bracket has 14 Bucknell playing 3 UNC which obviously shouldn’t happen. However, his bracket is a bit off in my opinion. UNC definitely played themselves to a 2 seed last night, and he inexplicably has Gonzaga as a 6 seed in that same pod.

That is precisely why I never pay any attention to Palm's bracketology. It seems as though he does no real research when putting his together. Even if UNC had lost to Duke last night and that dropped them to a 3 seed, they wouldn't be matched up with us.

Last year, Lunardi was guilty of the same thing in his final brackets, projecting us to play Butler despite our regular season meeting.

Palm's bracket last night was created before UNC-Duke ended (the accompanying commentary referred to the pending result of that game). This morning he bumped UNC up to a 2 and has us playing Michigan in Dallas. Lunardi says Tennessee in Nashville. (Both as 14 v 3.)

Does anybody find it ironic that this team is a likely 14, while virtually the same team was a 13 last year? I understand the dynamics at work here, but just sayin’

Looking at schedules, Wichita State (projected 3) played Charleston (projected 14) and SDSU (projected 12). That may cause a slight bump in the probability we get paired against them. Worth noting that Wichita State can’t play in Wichita as they are the host.

Also, Auburn (projected 4) played Murray State (projected 13). That could slightly help to get us a path to a 13.

A few other restrictions to note. Gonzaga played SDSU last year in the first round.

Tennessee played Lipscomb this year.

Arizona played New Mexico (if they get in)

The biggest factor, I think, was the injuries to Kimbal and Avi. They played hurt the first part of the year, then missed two months completely, and then slowly got back to 100%. Had they been fully healthy all year, I think the Bison would have defeated Monmouth, Maryland, VCU, and Lehigh. Had they done that, they would have been a 12, maybe an 11.

Last year, the team's top six missed a collective one game over the course of the year. This year, the same six missed 33 games collectively - and played hurt or while recovering in a number of others. Fwiw, last year's team had a final RPI of 66. This year it is 77 at present.

Vermont & UMBC tied with under 5:00 to play. Vermont led by as many as 9, but UMBC came back.

UMBC just hit a go ahead 3 with 0.5 left!

Will hurt our RPI but should still move us up one spot on the s curve
