I have thought the same thing for some time. I was going to upload some of videos to YouTube and post links. Either way, this board has been stagnant ever since Jake stepped away and let it monitor itself. The whole Basketball-U idea seems to be dying a slow death as most teams' boards are totally ignored and a few others get occasional traffic.

This is still better than the Ivy Voy Board.

True, or the Rivals board before that. I also think that incandescent lights are better than candles, but I recently switched to leds throughout my house.

There's the rub.

Better is great until you realize what you have for free is far better than nothing.

So last spring I actually focus-grouped a proposed move to new & improved board software to some of the heaviest users of this board.

I explained that this board software (FusionBB) is buggy, insecure, and high school age at this point. And the company that made it ceased to exist years ago.

I pitched a smart discussion site -- think Reddit, but instead of subreddits (or "boards" in the current setup), it would be one big conversation, but using tags.

So instead of going to a board, you would browse (or follow) a tag. And I've long wanted to play around with a smart autotagging AI that would automatically add tags to a thread as it progressed.

So let's say I wanted to start a conversation about Penn's 16 seed. (FWIW, laughably unfair by any reasonable metric, but totally in keeping with the Selection Committee's Dark Ages methods. Plus Kansas should be a 3 seed, so whatever.)

I would create a new conversation, say what I wanted to say, select "Penn" as the primary tag (and any other secondary tags I wanted, such as "Kansas, "NCAA Tournament," "seeding," "scheduling," etc.) and publish. This conversation then would show up for anyone following the "Penn" (or any secondary) tag, as well as anyone browsing any of those tags.

Let's say a Kansas fan wanted to reply to (foolishly) take issue with my characterization of Kansas as a bogus 1 seed. And let's say they wanted to argue that this Penn team isn't the Bucknell team that upset Kansas back in the day. The AI would pick up on the mention of Bucknell and autotag that reply "Bucknell." This would then display that conversation to anyone browsing or following the Bucknell tag. And so on and so on.

I explained this proposed new discussion software to these folks, but the consensus was that they were happy with this current software and were resistant to change from what they were familiar with. So I tabled that.

However, if it turns out their views aren't representative of the majority of people on here, I'd love to have a discussion about where to take these boards to modernize them.

Sigh. As much as I get frustrated with the limitations of this platform (most recently, the presence of some really nasty adware that has popped up that can make the board nearly unusable on any browser that does not support strong ad blockers) I would resist a move to a new place that does not:

1) Support the entire league and hence the crossover posters from other schools
2) Support the off-topic board which is half the fun for some of us
3) Come off as really easy and intuitive to use
4) Have pretty strong social media integration
5) Stays moderated to a point
6) Does not have a free option (although I would make an annual contribution much as I did in the old IvyBasketball days)
7) Does not have really good search capability as I love seeing people reminded of their old posts ;-)

If anyone has an idea for such a platform, please post a link here so we can check it out!

As a newer, yet veteran, poster....I would like Mike James to permanently change his moniker to "Administrator" and be forced to post all material under that screen name.

Except then we would never know when the prior Great Leader, Jake Wilson, was posting.

That was me. I believe Mike posts under his mrjames account.

I still read these boards occasionally and still get emails reporting technical issues and objectionable posts. And it's great to see so many people paying attention to the league as a whole these days.

I believe pitchers should have to bat in a baseball game.
I believer that post-season participation should be limited to division winners.
I believe the Ivy League representative in the NCAA tournament should be the regular season champion.
I believe this message board is fine, as is.

If, for reasons of cost or technological failure, we need to move to a new host, then so be it. I hope the current structure and ease of use continues on any new site.

I found the description of Reddits and and sub-Reddits and primary tags and secondary tags to be technologically incomprehensible. So, if we go that way, please provide a free, online tutorial for the rest of us.

I have no difficulty linking to news articles and to my spreadsheets. I would like to see MBA Prof's pictures and videos and would think it would be possible to upload them to a third party site and then provide links for us.

Hi, 10Q. I'm more into Twitter these days, but I do jump in occasionally on here. (Usually involving P38 saying something egregious. I kid. Well, sort of...)

Hey Stu. Rest assured whatever we came up with as a replacement for this board, making it easy to master for those who prefer their learning curves to be gentle would be a primary directive.

But really, we need to move on from this board. It's a buggy security risk at this point. We can do WAY better.

I have no problems with this board when on my desktop, but there are indeed all kinds of nasty ads popping up that frequently disrupt my ability to use this site at all when on my cell phone.

It has antique charm, but I sympathize with those who have to maintain it.
