I don't think we can claim we were the best 16th seed anymore.

What does it say about the ACC that their best team can get blown out by a 16 like this?

What does this say about one-bid leagues not sending their statistically best team to the tournament?
On paper, UMBC was not the best team in the America-East, but they have been on a role since the end of their season.

I had Virginia going out next game anyway--they are not nearly as strong on paper (your term) as Duke and NC. But it's great to see teams from "lesser" conferences winning. Watch Buffalo--they dominated their conference this year, and the MAC is not that bad.

I'm stunned. Virginia had arguably the best defense in the country in terms of points allowed. No one had scored 70 or more on them all season. A lot of that was due to the way they controlled pace and limited possessions. Looks like UMBC was able to speed them up, and exploit the fact that they aren't a great offensive team.

Almost everyone in my pool (myself included) is now dead as a doornail.

Go figure.

About 25 of the UMBC points came in the last five minutes or so as I recall when UVA was desperately going after the ball and gave up layups and wide open threes. In the end it was the UVA lack of offense and bad shooting that let them down. UMBC only had 21 points at the half and yet it was tied.

Getting behind forced UVA to play D a little different. Last year they scored just 39 points being eliminated with most of the same cast. They didn't appear to be able to even run any plays the last 10 minutes or so. I think Bennett needs someone to help him on offense or recruit a few shooters.

It appeared to me that UVA just quit in the last few minutes when it looked like it would be virtually impossible to come back. Not the kind of stuff champions are made of.

One thing I will say of this years Quakers - they NEVER quit even in the last few minutes of the Kansas and Villanova games when their chances of victory were essentially nil. Another credit to Steve D and the players.

It was a bad look for them the last few minutes. It's hard to see guys fall apart like that when they are supposedly so well coached. As a Hokies fan did not mind seeing them lose but still felt bad for them.
