I have a strong feeling this team is going to exceed many people's expectations.

I am not sure where the points are going to come from, but I think that they are talented enough to win the PL regular season. From there, who knows what will happen.

Sestina & Kimball will provide the bulk of it I'm sure. I'm predicting we will have 2 more added to the 1000pt club this year.

Sestina's currently at 385 that would mean he would have to average 20.5 points over 30 games next year, while I expect a very good season for him that would be quite a stretch.

Yes that is correct, but they play 31 games during the season plus at very least 1 postseason game with the conference tourney, giving them a minimum of 32 games. I expect them to at least make the championship which would give them 34 on the year. 18-19 ppg is hardly a stretch for Sestina.

Nate had minor knee surgery to remove an extra knee cap he was born with that was starting to bother him. Surgery went well & he will be good to go 100% for the teams August trip to Europe. It was a surgery he had planned during the season to undergo soon after it ended.

Sestina on twitter today:

"20 days out from surgery and was able to hop on the bike at PT today and ride for 10 minutes. Overwhelmed with happiness"

Newer tweets from Nate:

6/2 - "1 month out of surgery and we’re already walking and at 134 degrees ROM. Besides basketball, comeback season is my favorite"

6/27 - "Ya boy got cleared to shoot jumpers today. "

7/4 - "Yesterday I got the green light to start jogging!!"

Here's a nice article on Nate & his journey so far.

http://d9sports.com/from-d9-to-d1-nate-se stina-cam...

He's such a humble young man & never misses an opportunity to acknowledge and thank his family for their support & the sacrifices they made to help him accomplish his goals!

So is there any update on whether Nate Sestina will come back to Bucknell for a 5th year?

If not, he definitely get some interest as a 5th year player at a mid-major, possibly even a big 5 school needing to shore up front court depth.

On a related topic, the new permissive redshirt rules might put the Patriot league in a strange position of having many players graduate with a 5th year of eligibility left but having to go to a new school for that 5th year.

I assume the PL does not allow it's member schools to accept 5th year players transfers?

1. Sestina theoretically cannot return because there is no scholarship available for next year. If he had considered coming back, I assume they would have held one back for him. With the Bucknell administration being very unhelpful when it comes to injury redshirts, I am not sure he could have come back.

2. There will be many chances for him in P5 conferences. Many of these schools have a scholarship open up in the spring and would be thrilled to get a player of his ability. Transfers from Lehigh and Lafayette, for example, have ended up at Georgia Tech and Pitt in recent years as scholarship players. Neither was nearly as good as Sestina.

3. I don't think there will be many cases where you will see 5th year transfers in the PL. Except for Bucknell, the other schools welcome their own 5th year players back with open arms - either as grad students or by picking up a second major.

4. Yes, the Patriot League does not allow graduate transfers in normal cases.

In a halftime interview a couple games ago, Sestina elaborated on his plans and said (if I heard it right) that he'll either be pursuing a grad year elsewhere or playing overseas.

He spoke of the desire to graduate and move on at the same time as his classmates/teammates, and also noted that most people can't fully appreciate what a demanding grind it is to be a Division I athlete, and not just during the actual season.

On that latter point, he also talked about how he'd had conversations with Bison now playing abroad, who spoke highly of the ability to have some true down time when they aren't playing, practicing or working out.

I would have loved to have him on the team for another year, but I respect his decision and his pursuit of happiness. That said, it will be less bittersweet if he's doing well in Europe as opposed to seeing him rack up points and boards in a different college uniform!

From what 137 and others have said, it is almost a zero percent chance Bucknell will allow a 5th year anyway, so Nate’s choices are to immediately play in Europe of work toward a Master’s degree and play a 5th year elsewhere. If it were me, I’d probably lean toward a 5h year as paid education is hard to turn down. But I wish Nate the best whatever route he chooses. He’s a talented player and seems like a good person. A 5th year could help him improve in areas such a defense and awareness. But I understand his desire to play professionally if possible.

If I were Nate I’d go to Europe and have an adventure. But he’s got great choices.

I'd get a free Master's degree and play a little hoops for 1 year. Then, I'd have an adventure for 5+ years in Europe.

First, I wish Nate well with whatever he wants to do. A few years back, he called me during one of the campaigns when they had players reaching out to donors ... back when we were both at the lower end of the pecking order (which I remain today). Anyhow, it was a wonderful conversation that lasted much longer than I would have expected We talked about his plans to live with his sister that summer and a little about the rest of his family. He is a young man that has much going for him. He was properly raised and represents Bucknell well.

That said, if he opts to stay in the game and ends up at the A-10 level, my first guess would be St. Bonaventure. Though, I suspect he could end up higher. We've had a few frontline players in the Northeast Conference end up at Texas A&M and Kansas State in recent years ... and he is much better than either one.
