Looks like a very good pick up with lots of perimeter size. Sounds like a Jelani type pg to me.

It should be interesting to see how he does this year. Abington graduated one of their primary scorers although Lucas will be running along side a Nova recruit. My guess is Lucas will have to carry more of the scoring burden although he did account for 12 pts/game as a junior which is not a bad number.

Abington has been playing in the Gonzaga classic this weekend. They beat Gonzaga on Friday and Episcopal on Saturday and are in the championship game. Most of the attention has gone to Eric Dixon (Villanova commit), but it appears Monroe has played well too. Some twitter reviews:

2nd game today saw big surprise as Abington PA beat host Gonzaga 58-51/Story was Abington’s 2 committed Srs 6’8 Eric Dixon & 6’6 Lucas Monroe/Dixon, headed 2 Villanova went for 29 & 14/Monroe going to Penn, had 16 & 5. Dixon is a beast inside that the Purple Eagles couldn’t stop

Of the four wing players matriculating next fall-- Martz, Monroe, Charles and Dingle-- I predict that at least one will be a star. Which one? I have absolutely no idea, although, if I had to choose, I think I'd go with Dingle.

I also think that MLL (that's what we're calling him) is going to be very good, will fit perfectly into Donahue's system, and will mesh very nicely with Wang and Simmons.

And another thing-- I can't express fully how impressed I am by Mike Wang. I figured he'd be pretty good, but I didn't expect this. I've never seen a guy with this combination of grace, athleticism, basketball IQ, size and shooting touch at Penn. He strikes me as a POY-caliber player, and I'm excited to watch him develop over the next few years.

Wow-- I'm seriously feeling the holiday cheer. I'll shut up now.

If the league is not in serious consideration for a second bid next year, we may never see the day.

I've said this before. Flying pigs will be having snowball fights in hell before the Ivies get a second bid.

Along the same lines, I predict that the best freshman in next year’s class will not be MLL. And that is nothing against MLL, who I am very excited about.

I'm very excited about the Penn class coming in next year, especially considering the staff's track record of recruiting and developing players to date.

I've watched a few on Monroe's games and he is definitely a player who will fit in well with this squad. A few observations from the couple of games I've seen (from end of last season in March) so take them with the small sample size grain of salt:

- Even though Dixon is Abington's center (he will be more like a 4 in college), Monroe jumps center ball to start the games. He is very athletic and have seen multiple alley oop plays called for him.

-He brings the ball up the court and starts their offense so really is their PG at 6'5"/6'6".

-He can slash and shoot the 3, and while I think he shoots 3's at a pretty good %, I don't think he shoots a lot of them.

-Definitely a good rebounder from guard spot and generally plays with a lot of hunger so I think has the tools to be a good defender (just hard to tell in HS basketball games).

Yeah, I'm really excited to have MLL also, but I don't see him coming in and playing a lot of minutes from word go so doubt he would be in the mix for best freshman. I think with Woods, Donahue and Silpe graduating that someone like Dingle or Monroe or Charles or Martz (or more than one of them) could come in and have an impact early as all the guard and wings recruits seem to be off to a good start in their senior years.

MLL on the other hand had a great first game and then has really trailed off stats-wise and pub-wise while Harvard's recruit Ledlum is absolutely demolishing people... he scored 51 points this weekend to set new NMH record. He looks like the best player coming in next year.

Without seeing games it is hard to see what is going on with MLL - he appears to be shooting a good %, but frankly not shooting much from the boxscores (continues to rebound pretty well) and Ledlum is literally shooting 2-3X the number of shots of anyone on NMH so not a lot to go around (but in fairness Ledlum is scoring efficiently with all those shots and it is a beast). I think MLL is more ready as a post defender, rebounder, blocker, so either way something we really need and at 6'10" those are the kind of kids that can take a little longer to develop.

Don't write off Williams, either. I would have to imagine he is in the mix....if recovered and healthy.

Totally, I was just focused on 2019 frosh with those comments. Would love nothing better than Williams and Betley both to come back strong for next season and that obviously would take away some of those minutes.

My affinity for Dingle has been well documented....but Ludlum will be the best Fr nest year and it wont even be close. Hes a legit stud.

Yeah based on the numbers and how efficiently he is putting up those numbers that is hard to argue at this point.

Do you have any insight to what is going on with MLL up there? Is it just not enough touches since Ledlum is so good/dominant? I still think he'll do great at Penn once in the program, but just curious.

Regarding Dingle, I did get to watch one of his games from the last month and he was really good. Drilled first three 3 pointers, led/paced the team, almost had a crazy dunk on people (got fouled), and seems to anchor the defense as well. Looked like PG of the future for Penn, so I'm a big fan also.

The good news is that I don't think Coach Donahue has to recruit the best players to compete - just have to get high level kids that are close (think we did for 2019) and I'm pretty confident what he can do to put together a team.

Players generally don't win games. Teams win games.
