The first thing I noticed on this list was that last season's three violators of team rules, Toomer, Moore, and Newman, did not recieve academic accolades.

Avi and Bruce have got to start, be productive, and be leaders this season for the team to contend.

If I could change the title on this topic to "Patriot League Academic Honor Roll", I would. Wow!!! What a list.

I love it that the Bison placed 8 players on the PL Academic Honor Roll. Nate Jones lead the way with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Also, it blows my mind that Nana Foulland, Stephen Brown, and Zach Thomas all made the list. It just goes to show that if you are academically oriented and you can play hoops, Bucknell has to be on the top of your list.

Here is the complete list of Bison who made the Honor Roll:

Stephen Brown, Sr., Psychology*
Nana Foulland, Sr., History*
Nate Jones, Jr., History*
Kimbal Mackenzie, Jr., Economics*
Matt O'Reilly, Jr., History*
Jordan Sechan, Fr., Undeclared*
Jimmy Sotos, Fr., Undeclared*
Zach Thomas, Sr., Biomedical Engineering*

* Bucknell Dean's List

Great list. Having so many players make it might obscure the fact that it is not easy for students who are devoting 30+ hours a week to basketball to also get a GPA above 3.2. That is especially true for frosh and sophs. Many not on the list still had solid GPA's - just not quite at that level.

The frosh/sophs cited in the original post for not making it join a very long list of good Bison players who did not make it either of their first two years. In the scholarship era, some of those who didn't make the honor roll their first two years include Bettencourt, Lee, Badmus, Griffin, Mastro, Tyree, Castleberry, Behan, Cohen, Willman, B. Johnson, and Ayers. Many of them did make it their junior/senior years.

Thanks 137 and good point. Someone can be a good student without every making the honor roll too. The difficulty of majors and challenging course scheduling varies with every student.

YES! We should be celebrating the fact that the majority of the team received this honor and that Bucknell led the league. Goes to show that athletic excellence and academic excellence are not mutually exclusive.

BTW, the women's team placed 11(!) players on the PL honor role.

Yes. And they also had 11 on the list the year before.

Three on this year's list are engineering majors (Rachel Dumiak, Gia Hayes, and Carly Richardson).

FYI I tried to change the title of the topic to something more positive however it doesn't appear you can.

I recognize I was being Mr. Half Glass Empty and should have first recognized what outstanding students are men's and women's teams are. True scholar-athletes.

(My initial concerns do stand however)

Husky, great humble pie. I've been there many times. Thanks for trying.
