Over five percent of the incoming first-year students are T&F recruits.
The recruiting staff should get Admissions pay.
Welcome to Bucknell, y'all. Have a great student career.

This does make one wonder about the roster size limits in Patriot League football.

More football players means a larger women's track team.

49 Recruits announced in M&F Track and Field 07-03-18 12:43 PM - Post#258445

The number is 47- my bad. Can't change the header, unfortunately.
Bring em on. We have a T&F coaching staff that seems up to the challenge of developing a team of that scale. They also have the ability (duty) to do the Title IX homework themselves, balancing gender, much like swimming.
How much room exists for football student-athletes to walk on and find a place, or to do the 'development' that Coach Donner said he needs to do for a year or two?
There's much gnashing of teeth elsewhere about the lackluster performance of Patriot League football in the scholarship era. The roster size limits are one possible factor. As an alum I would want a student who meets the University's standards for admission and a decent athletic pedigree to have a chance. Maybe I'm a romantic. I don't know the degree to which this currently can happen.

I am not sure of the walk-on numbers in football, but there are definitely some every year. For example, there was a press release on May 9th about six more additions to the class. There is a good chance that at least some of these players are preferred walk-ons with no merit aid but possibly need-based aid.

Thanks, 137. I was traveling abroad and had missed that announcement. I'm encouraged.

It's worth noting there are roster limits for men's XC and T&F, as there are for all men's teams at Bucknell. The days of being able to develop pure walk-ons over a couple of years is over. A number of these names will not be on the roster in the fall.
I agree with your overall sentiment. I don't think Title IX was intended to deprive males of athletic opportunities. But the current strict interpretation has produced that end result. At least there aren't (yet) any men's teams on the chopping block at Bucknell.
