    In response to Clyde

With all due respect, Clyde, how can you not criticize the current coaching staff for the attrition in the front court--five of our eight front court players have departed in the last year. And, the current coaching staff only recruited one front court player who is eligible next year. Also, your suggestion that Kyle Smith caused this problem makes little sense. Indeed, Eberle's recruitment did not work out, but Kyle did leave Engles two studs in Meisner and Tape, whereas Engles has only recruited two eligible frontcourt players (Brumant and Nweke) in two years who are still with the team. Finally, you might wish to reconsider your suggestion that anyone who is critical of the coaching staff does not support the program. Surely, you are aware of this team's disappointing record the past two years, and that the preseason projections are likely to have us finish in the Ivy League cellar. In my opinion, the amount of criticism of the coaching staff has been mild under the circumstances. Unless things improve, there is bound to be much more criticism.

Men's Basketball worries aside, the Barstool Columbia website is reporting the 2019 commitments to Columbia of a three-star football quarterback from California and a very highly rated catcher for our perennial championship baseball team. Also, Women 's Basketball Coach Megan Griffith has recruited a star-studded group of incoming Lions including a very talented point guard from Chet Forte's home state of New Jersey. Men's and women's soccer and women's softball are all expected to contend for the Ivy League Championship this year. Not to mention our outstanding men's tennis team and lightweight crew. In fact, we are seeing dramatic improvement with regards to all Columbia's athletic teams with only one exception. That of course is men's basketball. Why is that?

CADEN BELL is the three star QB from a California FB powerhouse who just committed. The Bagnoli recruiting magic is still strong. Eleven committed FB players and it isn’t even the end of August. The baseball team also nabbed a catcher whose name is now public but I don’t have it handy. So where are the early MBB recruits?

Don't know where the literary Chet is from; but THE Chet Forte, in fact, came out of Hackensack High. We also had Steve Pellino, a pretty good player from Ridgefield, New Jersey in the 70s.

Chet: You're right at the heart of the matter with respect to the men's basketball program. Whether or not the current coaching staff has had something or nothing to do with 5 non-graduating players having recently left the program, their ability to recruit has been and will continue to be sorely impacted by this attrition rate.
