Seem like a once in a lifetime type opportunity for Columbia/Peter Pilling/President Bollinger/ to bring in the legendary Larry Brown as a consultant /adviser to its basketball program. Brown is a Hall of Fame Basketball Coach with very strong ties to the entire Metropolitan New York area. I'm not suggesting a coaching change, but a consultancy of some kind. Pilling and Bollinger have already struck gold once with Al Bagnoli so they know how it works. Hiring Larry Brown as a consultant/adviser would be a great move in my opinion. Anyone agree with me on this?

I'll bet the current coach would just LOVE that vote of confidence.

No, it's a truly idiotic idea.

Larry Brown is (was?) one of the great basketball minds. However he also comes with a lot of baggage.
Plus if you're going to do something like this then why not just get a coach you have more confidence in?
Pass.

For those interested, Adam Zagoria wrote an article about Larry Brown a few weeks ago, as the East Coast USA Team was practicing at Columbia for its trip to Italy.
https://www.flohoops.com/articles/6235952-heal th-i...
Brown had a recent illness and had to miss the trip, even though he did coach them in NYC. In terms of his working, a spot on Earl Watson's Phoenix staff fell through and he decided against coaching his local high school team in Long Island (East Hampton) due to time commitments. At this time, he is scheduled to be the head coach of Auxilium Torino in Italy.

FWIW, Larry Brown and Fiat Torino have just parted ways after the team started 5-19.

I hope you're prepared to write the check for Larry's consultant's fee. A lot like the members of the old guard responsible for today's challenging situation at Columbia, Larry simply refuses to just go away.

Interesting--thanks for posting. Columbia has a second chance to hire Larry Brown as a consultant/adviser and, in my opinion, ought to do so asap. What I said in my August 2 post still makes sense to me. Of course, if you are happy with an 3-8 record this year and a predicted bottom of the Ivy finish, you might disagree.

There's quite a bit of merit to everything you've ever posted here; but you also know they're not paying for anything like that. And let me not even get started; you know I give Chet agita with every appearance I make over here- and I do want the poor guy to be around for at least one more Christmas; on Main Street in Hackensack; to be witness to all those lights and ornaments that he's had a fondness for since he was a little bambino resting in his nona's lap!

Save putting it out to undermine Engles, channel Rohan or Wooden.

I officially nominate this for Stupidest Thread in the Ivy League Forum.
I am told the awards dinner will be held sometime in April.

No point in insulting a man and an idea HE values. Even less point in contributing to a thread on multiple occasions, if it's viewed as stupid.
