Columbia will play them there on Dec. 30th. Maybe the Big Ten Network will carry.

Great showcase for Chicago native and emerging superstar Mike Smith.

And Tai Bibbs is also a Chicago guy from whom I expect great things this year as part of our 4 guard lineup.

At this time, I assume the probable starting line-up would be Smith, Bibbs, Adlesh, Ellis and Tape. Brumant and Nweke are bound to see plenty of action as well. I'm still hoping that eventually Engles will have some good news for Columbia basketball fans in the form of a couple more big men who will help alleviate the obvious depth problem up front.

One thing for sure; we are going to be small, probably the smallest we have been since my heyday at the old gym coming out of Hackensack High. On this team I would be just below average in height.

Add Steffanini and Davis to the list of possible starters in Columbia's backcourt.

Add Hunter, Killingsworth and Barba to the list of players who will see action in the frontcourt. But none of them are taller than 6'5" which is a serious problem. The unanticipated roster attrition affords Hunter the opportunity to make a huge impact up front specially if he bulks up some.

Hunter needs to develop his shot to make a real contribution. It is a puzzle to me why he hasn’t done so because he is such a tremendous athlete. With our lack of size we are going to have to push the ball down the court, go ten deep, and run and gun. We cannot play a half court game.

Apparently, the point of the men's basketball program has been relegated to "showcasing" Smith. But Chet, you still have a year of eligibility remaining from the 50s! You may just have to suit up in a 3 months, and "show" that boy what taking and making shots is all about!

Actually I only have one semester of eligibility, assuming that the semester I was on probation Is deemed to be a medical redshirt semester.

Chet:
One semester eligible's probably at least good enough to get you into that Northwestern game; let's make it a go for now. And you mention Wilt- that poor guy's been dead almost as long a you and Ungvar; the difference being that at least Wilt concedes the point! You and the BlueBooster, on the other hand, believe you're both still relevant.. ... as relevant perhaps as Mike Smith; and just maybe you are!

Can we be successful next season without Chet? And, if so, how?

Sir, I'm flattered that you'd direct that to me; but I'm afraid that if I answer you, offering my sincerest sentiments, that I'll just reawaken Ungvar from the depths of his Hungarian tomb! So, for now, let's allow the dead to rest; furthermore, we don't yet know the full makeup of the 2018-19 team. I do know Gabe Stefanini's still in Italy, and what that means, if anything, I can't say.
On another note, I don't believe your notion of hiring Larry Brown as a basketball consultant is at all wrongheaded; but you do know how cheap Columbia has historically been- particularly when it comes to writing checks for anyone NOT named Bagnoli or Bollinger. And Larry's made a lot of money; but would he do something like what you suggest pro bono? I know that like I know if Stefanini's going to be boarding a plane for New York anytime before Labor Day!

I really want to see if my two hand set shot is still deadly. I may need somebody to set a few screens. It might have to be Mike Smith. I can’t see over anybody else.

Chet: Your level of modesty greatly exceeds both your stature and level of candor, herein. Not only would your set shot work today or any other day; but if they had the 3 point shot back in '57, you'd have averaged 32 points per game! Imagine that: taking about the same number of shots as your Mike Smith on a typical night, you managed to score TWICE as many points as he, spent more time at the free throw line, too; AND, most significantly, your TEAM won TWICE as many games (18), including 9 in the Ivy League. Not that I would attempt to embarrass Smith or any other man by comparing them to you; because any of that would be akin to comparing today's Fox Sports Network to the iconic Wide World of Sports.
