Dubai is out.
DIII school is in.
And we're done with Princeton (save for a potential IL tourney) on.....January 12th.
Also, Penn makes a Pit stop in New Mexico. Have they ever played there before? That's a nice place to play (maybe not so much for the visitors).

Not a particularly intriguing schedule, and I hate the 2 games against Princeton early (although it may be to our advantage). On the other hand, that stretch from Miami-LaSalle-Villanova-N ew Mexico-Toledo-Monmouth, followed by the home and home Princeton games, Temple and St Joe's, is the toughest stretch I can remember in some time.

Any idea why Donahue always schedules George Mason as his DC-area opponent? Dunphy did AU but I realize his connection to that program.

Donahue and Paulsen are buddies I think.
Interesting, they got out of the Howard return game and added @NM.

I would not be so certain that Penn "got out of" the Howard return game. Howard still owes us a home game. Unless Howard paid to buy us out of that game, I would expect that Howard will be on our home schedule next season. Or, perhaps, the Dubai option will return.
As of now, Penn at Princeton on January 5 will include both the men and the women. Princeton at Penn on January 12 will be just the men. The Princeton women list their game at the Palestra for Tuesday, February 26.
It appears that the Cornell/Columbia weekends will be doubleheaders involving both the men and the women. Both men's games that weekend in Ithaca, Penn at Cornell on February 1 and Princeton at Cornell on February 2 are listed as 5:00 pm tipoffs. That also explains the 8:00 pm tipoff for Columbia at Penn on February 22.
I could be mistaken, but I suspect that Penn at New Mexico is a guarantee game. Penn will pocket a paycheck and New Mexico will not return to the Palestra next season.

Not that last year's bar was high to hurdle, but this is a much improved schedule.
In terms of SOS, the Delaware State game probably hurts us the most, even on the road. Or maybe the Rice team in a shambles will be (clearly we're helping out Pera in a jiffy it would seem). But the composite of the non-Ivy DI games overall seems stronger.

Also, Penn makes a Pit stop in New Mexico. Have they ever played there before? That's a nice place to play (maybe not so much for the visitors).
Twice, in the Lobo Invitational, in December 1981 & 1992. But they faced New Mexico only once, in the 1992 championship game, falling 54-51, after defeating Northwestern in the semifinals, 64-61.
In 1981, in the midst of a school-record 9-game losing streak, Penn lost in the semifinals to Fordham, 77-73, in double overtime, then dropped the consolation game to Marshall, 65-64.

I believe after the Lobo Invitational the New Mexico coach at the time said they were never scheduling Penn again (tongue in cheek).

This schedule is growing on me the more I look at it. As much as I dislike the two Thanksgiving week 'Turkeys', if I have to miss a game, it might as well be a DIII team. Clearly, Steve likes these confidence-builders going into the impressively challenging set of games in December and January. I like PU on successive Saturdays to avoid the dreaded 3 games in 5 days stretch. New Mexico is a pleasant surprise, even if it is a guarantee game, and I like getting Yale at home on the last weekend - maybe send them a message going to the tournament ;-)
I only wish we were getting Temple earlier - it seems they start slow and get better over the course of their season. OTOH, a win there would be special.
Also note the R&B scrimmage is not on a football Saturday as the Yale game was moved to Friday night.

Any reason why we're playing @NM? That's a long trip.
Would've expected a game in the Chicago area (Max) or Georgia (Tyler) as typical protocol has been to schedule games near the hometown of Seniors.

Such is the nature of play for pay...
You do these deals where you can. Atlanta only has a couple of schools that might do guarantees- UGA and GA Tech. Making the dates line up, even if one of those were interested, would be a challenge. Chicago has more intriguing home/home possibilities with Northwestern and Loyola (looking at you, Grace) there may have been attempts there.

There were attempts. I think the Loyola, NW, Illinios, Notre Dame, Dpaul crowd would all prefer to play a middle of the pack Ivy, lest they get Dayton'd or UCF'd. UIC isn't an option because they won't pay generally. Columbia and Brown have been getting the Northwestern

I HATE having both Princeton games over winter break. Might students be returning for the home game, and thus we have a chance to get some in the house?

Loyola - seriously doubt it
DePaul - no idea
Would've thought we'd go to Chicago area or Georgia for a non-pay game anyway, even if away only, though I'm naive about how this all works. Neither are so much farther than Toledo and have to be easier to get to.

I agree playing PU during break is not optimal, but I'll worry about that if the students start showing real interest in the program. Until then....

Given the Tuesday holidays this year, a lot of people will be off New Year's week (including yours truly). Gonna miss the first Princeton game--at least it's away and on ESPN+, which I get as an ESPN insider.

I think it really depends on the program to be honest. Princeton has played guarantee games against VCU and Butler in the past two years, so I guess UNM paying for guarantee games wouldn't be too out of the ordinary. Looks like a good schedule for Penn! Not sure how I feel about both P/P games being in January, but at least it gets rid of playing 5 games in a short span
