I am sorry to report the passing yesterday of Big Dawg, aka Rich Forzani ‘66 C, a former freshman footballl player and deeply devoted supporter of Columbia football and basketball. Big Dawg was one of the key players in the alumni movement to push out Murphy and Mangurian. He was a frequent presence at Levien and lived long enough to attend almost every football game last Fall despite the cancer that was slowing him down. He will be missed.

Chet, I'm sorry about the passing of your friend, Mr. Forzani; and applaud your well written tribute to him. As we head into October, I'm sure Rick Forzani would want you looking ahead, and leading us in some (relatively) positive discussion on Columbia basketball. So please do lead the way!

Rich loved Columbia and especially Columbia athletics. He was willing to give Engles more leeway than most of his fellow bloggers. He was looking forward to continued improvement in shot selection in Smith, expected that Tape would become a dominant front court player, loved his fellow Italian Stefanini’s court smarts, always thought that Rodney Hunter would come around offensively, and loved the two top incoming recruits. He definitely would have found a way to see the first day of practice.

Yes: Gary Raimondo: Stephen Pellino; Gabe Stefanini and the very great (in life and death) Chet (The Jet) Forte- all Jersey Italian boys, and part of the rich history of Columbia basketball! Just mentioning it because many on Morningside Heights only want to give credit to Italianos for the Core Curriculum and V&T's!
