Aaron Roussell has added his first commitment in the Class of 2020: Junior Julie Kulesza, a 5-9 guard from Delaware who plays AAU for the Philly Belles. She . was the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year as a soph, averaging 17.6 ppg, 6.5 apg, 6.2 rpg and 4.0 spg per game. Led her team, which is coached by her father, to its first state title in 62 years. Her 5-11 sister, who is just starting her soph year, was one of the team's stars last year as well.
Coach Roussell will presumably have three scholarships available for the Class of 2020, unless Ellie Mack returns for a 5th year in 2020-21.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the earliest commitment a Bison BB team, male or female, has ever had - at least in the scholarship era. She just started her junior year a couple of weeks ago. Tai Johnson, the Bison PG of the future who just started her senior year at Mars HS, was the earliest prior to this commitment.

this looks like another really good pickup for the women's team. she has already surpassed the 1,000 point mark after her sophomore season, although she played as an 8th grader, so not really on pace for 2,000 yet.

now, having just decided to disregard national rankings for the women, i am going to give great credence to the Delaware pre-season rankings as they place J. Kulesza in the #1 spot. the #2 ranked player has commited to Seton Hall next year, and #3 is Kulesza's younger sister.

In a small state like Delaware, the rankings probably are more accurate - as I am sure the coaches and writers have seen all of the top players a number of times. But it gets a lot tougher in a big state and it is virtually impossible to accurately put players from 50 states into one huge composite ranking. That is especially true for the girls where few scouting services are following the middle-of-the-road AAU events and camps.
One small example is a soph who just transferred out of UConn. At that level, the players are seen a lot and this particular player was ranked #11 in the nation. But when she arrived at UConn, it was quickly apparent that she was grossly overrated - likely not a top 50 player. If this type of mistake can happen for four and five star players, imagine the potential for errors with two star players.
