I finally got around to watching MLL's video clips. Can't say I see a lot of Geoff Owens or Koko Archibong or Ugonna or any other player whose played for Penn in those videos, but MLL does remind me of guys we've played against, primarily in Big 5 games. Seems like Temple always had a guy who defended the rim and cleaned up a lot of the misses or finished well around the hoop off of passes from dribble penetration and Nova had that guy Ochefu recently who did the same.
At any rate, time will tell but I think this player is different than Penn players of past years and will really fit in with our other bigs and the wing and guard pieces Steve has added.

Agree.
Time will tell, but the 2019 class is looking real nice. Could be the best class in talent and depth since 2003.

The other Max does remind me of past Penn players, in particular Tim Begley. I think he is going to step right into Ryan Betley's role when Ryan graduates and has potential All Ivy skills.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking so much of style of play per se but rather expected output. And that's when Owens popped into my mind.

Geoff was in my son's class. I remember seeing him on move in day. He was a stick - around 6'9" 180 lbs. He developed from a skinny awkward high schooler into a muscular 7 footer. One of my favorite Quakers because he was an incredibly hard worker and a total team player. If MLL has the same work ethic as Geoff, the sky is the limit.
Right now I'd say he looks much smoother than Geoff did coming in and has a much higher upside, but Geoff accomplished a lot. MLL has all that in front of him and there is no certainty of anything looking forward.

Geoff played best with his jaw wired shut.
I really hope his kids inherit his size and his wife's talent, and they go to Penn.

Hadn't seen this one shared:
"The commitment is Penn's fourth of the 2019 recruiting class and an absolute steal as Lorca-Lloyd has received steady high-major recruitment over the years. "

The site you linked ranked him as #3 in Massachusetts and #6 in New England. Have we ever had a big man recruit rated this highly? I recall that Onyekwe was highly thought of but not really followed on recruiting sites, possibly due to his short stint in US prep ranks.

Probably not surprising once you get up to this rating level, but the good news about mrjames list of top 20 guys is that all of them have at least been good Ivy players. We might have expected some more from Zena, but he certainly was impactful. We’ll have a bigger sample size once MLL and the 3 Harvard kids are through, but so far the hit rate is 100% on these guys. If I’m jinxing anyone here, hopefully it’s one of the Harvard guys.

I have seen Max play many times and know him quite well. Let me start by stating this is a fine young man who will represent the university, himself and his family very well.
On the court he has so much potential but I do believe his current ranking is based slightly more on his upside then his current skill level and productivity. He has all the tools and the work ethic to develop into a star, not just at the Ivy level. He has a high motor, incredible instincts protecting the rim and is solid finisher with a nice touch. Hes skinny, needs help finding his right spots of the offensive side of the floor and knows he needs a bit more toughness.
This is a huge get for Penn. If he doesnt develop he should be an all-ivy talent in a year of two...if he does his upside is very exciting.

Thanks, nychoops. I am really excited when I hear about these types of recruits. The ones who are positives for program and school in so many ways. That is what college athletics should be about. Young people testing and hopefully fulfilling their destinies.

There may not be an Abner's much longer. I recently read that the property was sold. Stay tuned.
