We scrimmaged Bucknell today at the Palestra. I wasn't there but here is what I have been able to gather:

We "won" 3 halves. 2 with the starters and last one with reserves playing. 41-37, 40-39, don't know the last score.

Woods and Betley didn't play. Our starters were:

AJ
Max
Dev G
Jake
Bryce Washington

First guys off the bench were Mike Wang and Jackson. Others who played with the starter group were Eddie and Jarrod.

The most interesting thing I heard was there were 2 bigs on the floor the entire time and for a significant part of the first two halves we played with 3 bigs (AJ, Max and Wang and Jarrod, Wang, AJ)

Now I am sure the return of Woods and Betley changes a lot but I found that interesting.

I realize that we can't place too much importance on what happens in an early scrimmage like this (particularly considering that two starters didn't play), but I'm encouraged that a freshman started, and that another was a key guy off the bench. One of the very few areas of disappointment to me last season was the fact that none of last year's freshmen played a significant role. It would be great if Washington and Wang both are significant contributors right from the start.

Anyone know how the Freshmen looked? How about Eddie Scott? Has Goodman found his shot?

The fact that 2 freshman played early and throughout is a good sign. Eddie also played early, a good sign. A scrimmage is not the place to assess of Goodman has found his shot. He could have gone 5-5. Means nothing really. We won’t know til a few games in

At what point do we start to worry about Betley's participation in basketball activities since March and how little we actually know?

"Winning" halves while missing 2 starters is never a bad sign.

Betley is fine. He has been practicing and playing with the team since early August. Don’t know why he sat but it’s a short term issue.

Good to hear. I just know he missed something a few weeks ago too and obviously didn't play overseas. I look forward to seeing him Saturday.

Thanks for all the updates on how the scrimmage vs. Bucknell went. Generally Bucknell has been a very good mid major program, but I think they are probably a bit inexperienced this year since a lot of top players graduated las year. Still think they are top 3 in preseason for Patriot League though so missing two starters, winning basketball sounds good to me!

Definitely sounds like some interesting lineups and good to hear Washington, Wang, Scott and Simmons of the young guys sound to have gotten time with starting group. I think we need to see results with those young guys to get where we want to go this year.

Any word on who stood out beyond the core guys like AJ? I have a feeling I’m going to like our rebounding if Max and AJ share more time on the court this season and we generally have 2 bigs on full time. Be curious to see how it affects defense which is one of my biggest concerns compared to last year (that plus finding new consistent 3 ball threats).
