Revisionist history strikes again. In what alternate universe did we not win the tournament final?

As we all know, only the regular season determines the League Champion. Any post-season game determines only the NCAA participant.
However, a brutally terrible call at Yale allowed Harvard to backdoor into the claim of a title.

Well, without the traditional one game playoff, were they even the regular season champ? Looks like two 12-2 teams to me, which traditionally is a tie for the title necessitating a playoff.
Maybe the headline can be switched to “Harvard Picked to Defend Their Top Seeding in the Ivy Tournament.â€

Was it not a shared title? Harvard got the 1 seed for the ILT

Under Ivy rules, it was indeed a shared title.

I think we were 2-1 vs Harvard last year. But that doesn’t matter either.

Based on point totals, all but two voters picked HYPP as the top four in some order.

Pretty clear separation between the top and bottom halves. Don’t think we’ve seen this definitive of a split in the prior two tournament years.

Looks like Brown is expected to be the squad fighting to break HYPP in both men's and women's.

Looking at the top 4 teams in both groups, strong defense seems to be the common thread.
For Brown, the men and women have much better offense than defense. Last year, the Brown women were 12-1 in non-conference but lost one of its leading scorers to a knee injury just before the start of the conference. They ended up going 3-11 in the conference.
For Brown to make a run at both 4 spots and break up the HYPP grouping, at a minimum, they must have their starters stay healthy.

I'd be lying if I said I don't think about where the 2019 ILT would played had that game not been handed on a silver platter to Yale. Forget the final call, that was the worst officiated game of the last 5 years and to think that bad calls potentially took the game away from the Palestra stinks. Maybe they had planned to move it all along, but Penn winning as a BS 2-seed didn't help.

Ivy League Preseason Media Poll 10-19-18 12:25 PM - Post#263051

CBS Sports today names Harvard as one of the Cinderalla squads who could surprise in NCAA basketball tournament. (Actually, #7 of the 11 named potential ball crashers.) NBC Sports also just named Harvard as one of 10 midmajors most likely to impact the tournament (ala Loyola-Chicago)
For how many years can a league, let alone a team, be considered a "surprise?"
If the Crimson reach the NCAA's these next two years, I can't believe that any Power 5 wants that draw. I suspect the committee will scheme to pit the Crimson against another midmajor to avoid an unfortunate result. I've been impressed by how Harvard has often played up to quality opponent in recent years, including Kentucky (-9), Minnesota (-10), Marquette (-7), Kansas (-6), Oklahoma (-12) and UNC (-2). That doesn't include NCAA wins over New Mexico and Cincy and in season tournament victories over BYU, Auburn and Florida St. Of course, Harvard has laid an egg on occasion too (UVA, St. Mary's), but Amaker seems to be able to coach his team up to the level of a ranked opponent often enough to scare any NCAA opponent. I hope that Bryce and Seth are healthy enough and that the rotation is set early enough so that Harvard can give UNC (Jan 2) and St. Mary's (Nov 24) a scare.

Still counting chickens, I see. That being said, it's far more likely that they will do to Harvard what they did to Penn--underseed them and send them to play a top 10 team in their home

FWIW, if Harvard can't be competitive to get to the tourney on its own merits with the changes that have been made to the metrics (leave aside committee behavior), it's likely not good enough to do the damage that folks are excited about it doing anyway.

Harvard won't be underseeded, as they'll be #1 seed and winner of a tournament played in NewHaven. When you're the number two seed in a tournament played on your home court, then you deserve to be sent to Kansas- a place where they count chickens with the best of them!
