Having lived in Hamilton Court for 2 years, and eaten countless breakfasts at Troys (bought beer, too), replaced by cheesesteaks after 20 years vacant. Those who lived in that area might feel a bit nostalgic by this piece.

Message to Steve: A bagel, an egg, a slice of cheese and a couple slices of bacon.
You can do this.

Agreed, although if he could do Taylor Ham instead of bacon that might be nice.

Isn't Taylor Ham what people in Jersey call pork roll?
Edit : I don't generally reference Wikipedia as a source of truth but their Pork Roll entry nails it. Too many fun facts to quote all of them. Prince Steve - take note!

Yes. We believe Mr. Taylor should be given his due. It's all part of the long-standing respect for intellectual property we have in the Garden State.

Funny article...but the reference to back bacon at the bottom is misplaced--that is real food compared with Pork Roll.

Agreed. Pork Roll is something that transcends mere food.

Indeed, I do. I lived in Hamilton Court during the 1971 - 1972 academic year.

'76-'78 for me. Nothing like walking through the garbage chute out to 39th Street to get to Troys

There was a persistent rumor when I lived there in 80-81 that they were going to put a duck pond in the courtyard. As if University City Housing was ever going to spend a nickel they didn't have to.
But we all imagined stopping at Troy's for a six-pack and the buffet, to be enjoyed pond-side.

Apparently the complex was purchased by Post Brothers--a very active RE company here in Philadelphia and they have put a lot of money into it. Frankly, though, I think I preferred paying $300 for a big 3 BR apartment with roaches.

How did you manage to get the roaches to kick in their share of the rent?

Funny story. The Hamilton Court office burned down in February, 1978, after the fire trucks couldn't get in fast enough due to the snowdrifts from the massive Snowstorm of '78. I didn't have to pay rent for the last 3 months I lived there because all their rent records went up in flame. I think the roaches started it.

The roaches didn't want to pay rent in that undergrad-infested dump.
Who can blame them?

Anyone know what they built next to Hill house? The only other thing Hill was good for outside of the dining hall was the grass field when it snowed.

And now Post Brothers is selling it, a quick turnaround after renovating all of the units and filling the retail space.
