Kept the turnovers to a minimum again today, which is certainly helping. They've also picked up the defensive effort the last few games. Also had another explosive 3rd quarter, not that the 1st & 2nd were bad.

Glad they have a couple of home games after finals before they go to Iowa St. If they play with them with the kind of confidence they've shown lately, it will be a good game.

normally don't care about bracketology projections this early in the year, but thought it worth pointing out that current espn bracket has us as an 11 seed, pretty impressive, hopefully we keep playing well and get there

The best seed for a PL team has been a 13 - which I believe has happened four times. An 11 would be very impressive. One thing that may hurt, even if the team performs well, is that the women's committee doesn't just try to seed the teams, but also uses geography as a significant factor for lower seeds. The women's tournament - unlike the men's - does not make money, so they try to contain costs where it's not too outrageous.

Yes, I doubt they will fly them to Stanford, though it would be a great experience for the players.

Curious. How many women's basketball athletic scholarships does Bucknell give? Are these all full rides or are some partial?

I am fairly certain it is 13 - the same number as the men. Definitely not less. In women's basketball, a team can give out as many as 15 but not many do.

Unlike most sports, basketball scholarships are all full rides. No partials.

Women ranked 10th in latest mid major poll. Interesting that Quinnipiac, season opening #1, has dropped out of the top 25.

They had bad back-to-back losses vs Central Michigan and Princeton. In the Massey ratings, they fell from 59th to 90th. CMU btw is ranked 26th of all schools, so that was not at all a bad loss, but still two losses will have an effect. Q'pac btw has had a brutal schedule. They may have bitten off a bit too much after their great run last year.

Bison btw are rated at #77 by Massey.

Another big win for the women today. After a rough 1st half where they were down 29-26, they exploded for 30 pts in the 3rd Q and 54 in the 2nd half. Another good game for Abby Kapp. Kate Walker also played well and looked more confident. 23-25 from the FT line. Would love to see the men do that.

A couple of stats demonstrate the improvement made by the Bison as the game went on:

Turnovers: 7 turnovers in the first quarter, 3 in the second, 2 in the third, and 3 in the fourth (all in the final minutes after the game had been decided).

Or viewed another way, 10 turnovers in the first 15 minutes. And 2 turnovers in the next 20 minutes. Then 3 in the final 5 minutes, after the game was over.

Threes: 1-7 (14%) in first half. And 6-11 (55%) in second half.

Women will have a challenging home game Tuesday at 11 AM (Education Day) vs Youngstown State. The Penguins are 7-2, including a 10-point win at Pitt.

BU has now moved up to #76 in the Massey ratings.

Women hang on to beat Youngstown State. After leading by 19 after 3, Bison manage to withstand the YSU charge.

They had me worried in the 4th. Great game by Kate Walker. She's had some shaky games, but is looking like her old self now. Hopefully, they can sustain the momentum after an 11 day layoff when the head to Iowa St.

Bison led 58-39 in the waning seconds of the 3rd quarter. Four minutes later, the lead was down to 61-57, following an 18-3 run by Youngstown. And Youngstown had a wide open 3-pointer that they missed that would have cut the lead to one. That probably would have had you really worried, had it gone in.

After that, they managed to keep the margin between 5 and 8 points until the end.

That was a good Youngstown State team we beat today. They could have packed it in a couple times but they played hard right to the end.

That Education Day event is a great idea. Gets a good crowd, and great for the kids.
