Where is Bonaventure? Can the Bisons beat them in their opening game?

Bonaventure lost 2 elite guards as well as 2 other players who transferred.

Courtney Stockard is most likely their best player; however, they also bring in a UNLV transfer who was highly touted out of HS

Stockard is expected to be out for the Bucknell game (and somewhat longer) rehabing from surgery.

St. Bonaventure is adjacent to Olean NY, which is near the PA border and about 70 miles south/southeast of Buffalo. Res can illuminate the highlights of Olean.

As for Bona, they can be beaten if the Bison play well. The Reilly Center is a tough place to play and there will be a loud sellout crowd, but as noted above, Bona is not as strong as last year. Last season they went 14-4 in the A-10 (second place), beat both Syracuse and Maryland, and earned an at-large bid into the Big Dance. They look more like A-10 middle-of-the-pack this year.

This will be a win for the Bison. There's going to be a big crowd of Orange at the game cheering on Sestina & Bucknell as this is a 45 min drive from his hometown.

I'd be happy to, though I'm a couple of decades out of date. I will be in attendance though, and am happy to play tour guide to the best of my ability.

It will be an interesting game. Both teams have obvioulsy had significant losses to graduation. With Stockard almost certainly out for this game, Bona is going to have to rely on some seemingly talented but in most cases raw newcomers. I think Nate will be key. He's going to have to keep his cool. He's going to be pumped playing closer to home and if he's going up against Ikpeze for Bona as he almost certainly will, there's going to be a lot of both incidental and non-incidental contact. It wouldn't surprise me if they both are in foul trouble early and often.

As to the possibility of a sellout, I doubt it. I'm sure there will be some sort of banner raising going on, but a Wednesday night is a tougher sell these past years with an increasingly shrinking and aging local community and fewer than 2,000 undergraduates. Nate's going to bring in some from nearby Cameron County PA but there just aren't that many to bring in. I'm guessing about 4,500 ("official" capacity is 5,480). On a weekend, you get alums from Buffalo and Rochester driving down but not so much on weeknights.

St. Bonaventure is well-coached and will be prepared despite not having all of their key players available. And, it has to be said ... I've been there twice and left both times thinking the visiting team was homered. Tough opener.

For some perspective, over the past five seasons the 9th place team in the A-10 was ranked higher than the top PL team three times, per Pomeroy and Massey. The other two years the 9th place A-10 team was ranked ahead of all but one PL team (the 2017 and 2018 Bison).

I will be driving down to visit Duke and UNC with my younger son when the game is played. What is the easiest way to listen to Bucknell hoops games on my phone?

TuneIn Radio app and Eagle 107. (There was a period when we couldn't listen to games that way but now it works again.)

One way. Get the Sunbury Broadcasting app (free). Eagle 107 is one of their stations. In prior years the Bison FB and hoops games were blacked out of the feed that is provided by the app, but so far this season FB games have been carried. Hopefully hoops will be too, If not, you are forced to the Bucknell broadcast app, which has a nominal cost (something like $5.00 a year). As I said, so far the Sunbury app has worked for FB, and that is the simplest way to get access. If when game day comes, they black it out, follow the “listen” link in the pregame write up. There may be a slight cost, but it is a one time as opposed to per game charge.

BRW beat me to it, and was a lot more succinct.

'Bison'

I think this is going to be a close game, with our up-tempo and swagger being the kicker getting us the win.

There's really nothing to do in Olean except hunting and watch St. Boneventure games. If a relative hits you up to buy the 1000 dollar cutco knives, they are made in Olean.

St. Boneventure has gone downhill since the Bob Lanier days of the late sixties and I remember him being the number one pick in the NBA draft in 1970.

Per Jon Rothstein on Twitter, Kent State beat St. Bonaventure 83-61 in a scrimmage in Olean.

Are by chance can tickets be bought through Bucknell? Or at least will there be an identified section for Bucknell fans? Presumably half of Cameron County will be there.

This Bona center is stylistically similar to Nana so I think Nate will have his number, and Sestina will have a fanbase there so all systems go for him. Kimbal and company are going to overwhelm this team and its going to be a statement game on a tough away court for the Bison. Bucknell is certainly facing a tough team on a home court but they will manage escape velocity and beat this team handily.

How many people is half of Cameron County? I’m surprised Colgate isn’t sending them direct mail to get them to fill Cotterell.
