I loved seeing Antonio's urgency and control at the end. He drove at will with those lean back layups. He would not be denied - except by GMU's great free throw defense.

Antonio looks like he could be this year's Foreman.

We couldn't hit free throws last year either - until the ones that counted against Harvard!

Great win by the Quakers!

Lessons so far.

FT shooting sucks
Brodeur remains a stud.
Woods is a player
Wang is a player, potentially a big star
Goodman settled down, contributed late after poor play early.
Silpe was ordinary
Max is max.
Hamilton contributed.
None of the others showed much although Eddie did make one three.
3 defense was good.
Defense on penetration was awful. Darnell is missed.
Team can go to the hole.
All in all a solid win against a middle tier team on the road after losing a major star.

All good points. I would add:

Besides Wang, no idea where our 3 pt shooting will come from.

Team D improved hugely in the 2H when we played all veterans.

The free throw shooting. (Sorry but I can't help myself.)

We had some interesting lineups, some with lots of shooters, some without. Surprising that Donahue didn’t get more run once Betley went down, but he didn’t seem to be holding up enough on the other end.

But what a win. Whatever combination of heart and coaching that was present last year sure looked like it was still there. The team took a couple of terrible gut punches there, and just hanging in there seemed like an achievement. Easy to see how they could declare moral victory under the circumstances, and instead they just kept coming. Also shows you don’t have to be perfect to win — we were far from perfect with all the turnovers, etc., but we were good enough. And while the Mason drives were effective, we kept them off the 3 line again.

So tough to see Betley go down. Such a joy to root for this group, and so sad to see him get hurt.

Go Quakers!

Per Jon Rothstein:

https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/status/1 060010323...

Source: Penn's Ryan Betley is believed to have suffered a ruptured patella tendon in tonight's win at George Mason. Would mean he's likely out for the year. Was leading scorer on last season's NCAA Tournament team.

From one ruptured patella victim to another, all I can say is “ugh.”

Usually can’t be repaired via arthroscope (although surgical approaches may have changed since I had it) so much more scar tissue to break down than with an ACL. I have a nice giant zipper scar as a memento, which my surgeon told me they could re-use for my eventual knee replacement.

I was 32 at the time. Not something you really want to hear at that age.

Ah, what a tragedy. That's a rough one to rehab and come back from. IIRC Jeremy Lin had a similar injury at the start of last season, and is back playing, but doesn't appear to be 100% healthy yet.

I had to run as soon as game finished, but I can honestly say... once it was over, I had no idea what happened, but was sure glad we won.

Seeing Betley go down was terrible, feel terrible for him and sounds like injury is year ending as I’d expect. Hope he heals quickly, and while it is way too early, I hope Betley bucks the trend and stays for his 5th year.

Hell of a gutty win which is awesome, but man for this year I don’t know how we replace Betley night in and night out...

Was looking at one publication that had GMU as the A10 favorite. Don't know if they played up to their potential but this win seems a good sign.

Might be that GM is a little overrated. They lost tonight to American at home also. Be interested to see where they net out.
