Well, Washington and Silpe started the second half in place of Betley and Woods. So that might give you a sense of who is viewed as a fit with the other 3 starters. Not sure who is replacing who there, but Washington comes closer to Betley’s size and athleticism.
That said, Hamilton got the most minutes ultimately. He seemed to be able to cut and finish the way Betley does in the offense.

Since we now have a thread, is it too early to realistically discuss whether he’d stay with us for a 5th year? I don’t know how his game meshes with what’s coming in, but it certainly couldn’t hurt 2019-20. Obviously that’s a big financial ask...
I just feel so badly for him.

Betley confirmed himself on Twitter that he's done for the year:

Back I go to lurking... see some of you Friday, I figure.

Terrible injury for Betley. At least i happened early in the year so he has almost a full year for recovery.

he is only a junior this year so his fifth year would be 2020-2021 season.

I dont see anyone staying for a fifth year as long as they be a graduate transfer somewhere else for free and be in a big time program or get playing time at same level

I'm not sure that is a categorical assumption--Penn is different from Cornell and Dartmouth.
However, there is a lot to say for working on your master's for free rather than staying for a double major and paying.

The rules are different at different schools, but Alex Rosenberg and Hans Brase come to mind as recent very good Ivy players who stayed to use their 5th year. Both left school for a year, though. The fact Penn’s rules allow for staying in school 5 years kind of cuts both ways — lots of advantages, but potentially a big additional financial cost. Not to disparage some of the other programs in the league, but the calculus seems like it would be different for Betley from what it was for Boudreaux, Hicks, Miller, Gettings, Mitola, etc. Those guys all were looking at very long odds to play in the NCAA tournament as an Ivy player. Betley seems more like Makai Mason or Brase — guys in a spot to win in the Ivy or play for a bigger time program. Brase chose to stay Ivy, Mason did not. Of course, Brase got hurt again his 5th year at Princeton and got to go play a 6th year in the Big 12 anyway.
As Donahue pointed out, the timing works out to give Betley rehab time and two full years of eligibility. I know that doesn’t take away from the disappointment of the injury, but hopefully it turns into a positive opportunity whether at Penn or elsewhere.

Extra year would require him to take 4 courses in First semester and only as many as necessary to get degree in the next (as few as one). The whole thing could be managed so that there is little financial burden. He could be a part time student next semester or even drop out this semester even at this late date if he so chooses.
I think the issue is whether he wants to do it. He certainly doesn’t need to decide this second.

What is the usual protocol in dealing with this kind of injury? Any surgery required? Is it simply a matter of giving it time to heal accompanied by some form of PT? Or some other combo?

Ryan's tweet says he has a rupture which requires surgery and he's out for the year.

It’s a major surgery. The patella tendon is big - it’s the end of the quadriceps muscle as it wraps around the kneecap and connects to the shin, after all - so lots of suturing to repair a tear. That means an open procedure, a big scar after they’re done, and lots of scar tissue.
