needed a late run to put away a d2 team at home in their opener. kenpom is 298. bart torvik gives a 94% chance of winning (though his projections include betley; don't know how that might change things).

A starting lineup of Simmons, Wang, Hamilton, Donahue and Silpe would probably be good enough to win this game. Rice really doesn't look very strong.

Let's not get overconfident. Hopefully, this will give Steve D a chance to see a number of players in action taking what would otherwise be Ryan's minutes and seeing what they can do.

Best to Ryan and wishes for a completely successful recovery!

Who are we thinking starts in place of Betley?

Washington or Hamilton I guess? Washington started second half but had a bit of a rough time, though you have to like his upside and maybe he could gain some confidence in this matchup. Alternately Hamilton played well.

A small part of me would love to see Washington get the start, as he's a freshman and it puts the future first. However, a much larger part of me knows that the start must go to the player who's earned it with performance in practice and the first game. If that's Washington, great. If it's Hamilton or somebody else, then so be it.

Wang is listed as the starter in the game notes:

Que Pera Pera.

Who I’m guessing is the only reason we’re down there playing Rice in the first place.

The game is at The Palestra. Hanging the banner in the pregame.

I think the starters will be:

Dev
Antonio
Bryce
Max
AJ

Wang is listed as the starter. That's pretty much what I expected would happen.

Yeah, no surprise Wang is starting at the 3. We will see Tyler and (probably) Scott there as well. If they get a good lead early, look for Kuba to get PT as well. Bryce will likely see time, but in the backcourt.

They are also showing McManus on the DL. Did I miss an injury there?

For those attending, the game is at 8 thanks to the banner hanging.

Did anyone notice the new tradition with giving our Frosh their jerseys? They started it last year and they bring back former players to hand them out. For those who haven't seen it, take some guesses at who was there representing each number. #20 was easy. It's a cool little tradition that spans generations.

I’m going w Bryce as the starter.

McManus? Does it matter? He doesn’t play. May be working the Dylan Jones angle, who will be in uniform at The Palestra tonight FYI.

PF-10: why all the love for Bryce? I know the kid has serious potential, but we haven't seen much so far. If we hammer Rice as we should, he'll get his PT tonight.

As for McManus - I just had not seen any news so I was wondering what happened since the scrimmages when he did play; unless he is being held out to save an eligibility year.

Re Bryce: i don’t have an answer for your question. I just think Bryce is going to start in place of Ryan and not Wang.

Re McManus: the latter I believe

That sounds really cool. If I had to guess:

#23 Michael Jordan (though isn't he busy coaching at Colgate?)
#34 Barry Pierce?

#10 Gotta be Kent Milholland, right? (Didn't he wear 10?)

0-3. I would have loved to have seen Barry. We do have a few from his era. I'll be honest in that I forgot that this number 34 wore number 34. I feel like he may have had a different number early in his career, probably due to the person you guessed.

I'll give away 20 which was Matt M.

i'm not quite sure i follow the angle. are you saying we allow a guy to be part of the team but promise not to play him so he has a year of eligibility to go get his master's somewhere else?

And the reason he doesn't just quit is that he's then able to practice and maintain playing shape and skills by staying on the team this year?

Sounds crazy to me. But to be clear, “we” don’t have any say in it
