I found my way to olean thanks to my friends! The people were very helpful and friendly! However, I was shocked at the student section and all the booing! Very unsportsmanlike to turn their backs as players were introduced Anybody else feel this way

The back-turning during introductions is a humorous equivalent of holding up newspapers, which I think is even better. It didnt 't bother me at all.
As for booing, do you think it's inherently bad? To me, it's a perfectly acceptable and a G-rated means of expressing disapproval or opposition.

Bonaventure crowd vs. Bison crowd 11-09-18 05:25 PM - Post#264996
In response to BisonRoadWarrior
The Bonnie crowd was very robust and animated. They did chant a-s-s-h-o-l-e when their number 15 center got injured and also b-u-l-l-s-h-i-t at some of the calls against them. They were lively and into the game. Very similar to a Bison crowd, the key word here being crowd. The Bison student section has to show up first, and I hope they do against Fairfield.

Hey, when was the last time WE sold out a home opener against a team not named Villanova?

Point taken, but Bona didn't sell out either. They sold 4,800+ tickets (5,400 capacity) and had 4,600+ in attendance. The students were great, though. Out of about 1,650 total, there were somewhere between 800 and 900 there.

I think the last sellout for a home opener was vs Wake Forest in 2007-08. I don't think the Bison have ever had a home opener vs Villanova, although I'd love to see it.
Generally the home openers have not had super-attractive opponents - typically so-so MAAC teams.

So I guess opening against Bucknell was a big deal in Olean as opposed to being the equivalent of us opening against a so so MAAC team?

I think it was viewed as a much bigger deal, playing a team that has won 7 of its last 8 regular season championships and who gave P5 teams close games in the last two NCAA tournaments. Also Bucknell still has the reputation from its two NCAA wins. A 9th place Siena team or an 8th place Manhattan team doesn't have nearly the juice in terms of drawing crowds.
Having said that, Bona - like most A10 teams - obviously outdraws all but one northeastern midmajor. Bucknell btw had the 4th highest attendance last year of the 49 northeastern midmajors, trailing only Siena (who has a number of special advantages), Penn (who has Philly and the Palestra), and Vermont. I'd like it to be better, but that fact points out hard it is for most schools in the northeast to draw fans. The majority don't even average 1000.

Yes, and the fact that students rarely make any kind of meaningful appearance makes Bucknell’s attendance all the more impressive. The “Sojka Psychos†are ancient history.

Every kid who plays HS basketball should be at as many games as possible. I was.
Beyond the lack of student attendance, the Lewisburgers who go to the game cheer like they’re at a wake. I mean the program needs those sales and community support but when the students don’t go our fan base is “reserved†to be kind.

Doesn’t really fit here, but the audio system stinks at Sojka. Extremely difficult to understand what is being said on the video board and with the cordless mic.

I was a section over from BRW and company and let me tell you, while the front few rows were Fairfield fans, the rest of the section was dead quiet. And a moment of honesty and hopefully some reassurance, as a student at a local university, I yet find myself always coming to Sojka because of the atmosphere and good basketball, but with me being “young†in the crowd and a high level of enthusiasm for bison basketball sometimes it’s a little scary to get a little rowdy. (Except for maybe when I stormed the court)
