If they don't double them up it will be a moral loss.

Can't remember the last time Princeton opened against a D3 team. Maybe 30 years ago when Carill liked to give Franklin & Marshall a taste of the big time?

Looks like the Cantabs are biting the dust off their struggles against MIT.

In the postgame interview, Coach Henderson said that "Devin's got a high hamstring thing,. He probably could have played, but we're keeping a close eye on him." Llewellyn (foot) is also expected "soon," but not as soon as Cannady.

The Tigers started two freshmen tonight, Ethan Wright (9 pts, 7 rebs, 2 assists, 3 steals) and Drew Friberg (13 pts, including 3-6 on threes). A third freshman, Max Johns, added 5 pts and 4 rebs.

Not much one can say about a tune up with a DIII opponent.

Very disappointed not to be able to see Llewellyn. Hope his foot heals quickly, but foot injuries are tricky. Desrosiers looked very smooth and better than last year. Much looked "much" the same. Friberg may be a sniper. Very difficult to judge Ariri and Gladson against such small defenders. Interesting comment by Stephens that Max Johns plays good "D".

Never can draw any conclusions off playing a DIII opponent plus the Tigers were missing Cannady and Llewellyn. Unfortunately, it looks like Jaelin may be out of action for some time. Henderson stated that Jaelin is the quikest player that he has ever coached which is not surprising.

Friberg, Wright and Johns played quite a bit as freshmen and it appears that Friberg may get some playing time as he has a pure shooting stroke. Arirguzoh, DesRosiers and Gladson appear to have improved as to skill sets. Much and Schwiegger did not show much improvement but only one game.

Biggest concern was the lack of foot speed on the defensive end other than obviously Stephens. Defense is going to be an issue in all likelihood.

DeSales was actually better than expected as their coach is good with a 26 year track record. It was a less brutal game to watch than anticipated.

I'm just not sure that the new moves that Aririguzoh showed will work against someone just as big or bigger, and just as strong.

While injuries are never good news obviously better to start the year slowly than to go down in January or February. Silver lining here is playing time for people you do not expect to need. Richmond remains a work in progress who will reach his peak as a player long after he graduates but with his size and strength he can fill the Pete Miller role quite well. Assuming Cannady and Llewellyn play 25 games this team will score a lot. Defense is the issue. While we won't stop people ala 2017 we can be better than a year ago. The tournament is a realistic goal. Perhaps 16-18 wins.

And this is why I plead for more zones. They don't solve the footspeed problem but they mitigate it. Of course you have to be fairly extended given all the sharpshooters in the IL, but the switching man the Tigers played last year was extended off the ball without giving much pressure on the ball, leading to free passing and driving lanes too often as help couldn't get in position (exacerbated by spotty effort and focus). Of course, zone teams do have to be extra vigilant about rebounding, but that is something addressable with discipline, unlike a lack of quickness.

Only Mitch knows if the Tigers approach to scheduling has changed based on Princeton's experience during the prior two years. Rather than going on the road to play Butler followed by BYU, Princeton starts with DeSales at home. 5 of the first 6 games, other than Friday's game at Lehigh appear to be against lesser competition. Makes more sense to mee especially with a young team.

Games 7-12 is against really challenging competition prior to the start of IL competition, including 3 top 50 teams on the road (Duke, St. Johns and ARizona State).

It may not be by design but just simply a function of availability. Lehigh played well against Miami on the road and it will be a tough game. Hopefully Cannady plays.

We pretty much know what Cannady can do.

I'm looking at his injury as early meaningful PT for others. Just as Brase' injury gave more PT for Caruso, and Caruso's injury resulted in the emergence of Stephens.

I would like to see someone with the mixed offensive/defensive skills of Stephen Cook among the freshmen.

The Engineers failed to cover at home tonight against a weak Marist 5.

It may be a tough game Friday night but it shouldn't.

I agree that it was a surprisingly close game. Lehigh ws down by 12 pts in the first half. They played competitively against Miami so this game at home is clearly a step down.

Even with that, I am concerned based on the Mountain Hawks style of play. They go up and down the court and they have four guys who can shoot 3 pointers. Both Marist and Lehigh shot 50% last night on 3 pointers. They have a dangerous PF 3 pt shooter and a player, Tejeda, who was on the list with Devin as some of the best 3 pt shooters in the country They make great plays and many mistakes. Which one Friday night?

Last year, they blew out the Tigers in the 1st half at Jadwin by 22 points -- may have been one of the worst Tiger performances of the year.

I suspect a tough one but hope that I am wrong.
