KenPom has #250 Dartmouth losing by 1 at #297 Loyola.

At the half, Dartmouth is up 48 to 43. They had a 15 point at around the 10 minute, but Loyola chipped away.

Jackson has 18 and Barry has 9.

Knight and Sistare both have 2 fouls.

They are continuing their hot three point shooting, hitting 10 of 15 (67%). They are only 5 of 12 from two (42%). They have hit 8 of 9 at the line (89%).

Loyola is doing well from the inside, shooting 16-28 from two (57%). They are 3-4 (75%) from three and 2-4 (50%) from the line. Loyola is leading on the boards 13-12.

They seem to be plating Sistare or Foye at the forward spot, when Knight or Jackson are off the court. At 6' 4" or 6' 3" that is really small to effectively battle down low.

They have got to be able to keep both Knight and Jackson on the court to get this much needed morale boost.

Dartmouth escapes 82-80 when Loyola's last second three point attempt is nowhere near the hoop.

Would have been nice to have a more convincing win, but we will take it.

I would also like to see more consistency both offensively and defensively. We got out to a nice lead early in the first half and that's how we won. We were outscored the rest of the game. We won the first half by 5 pts and lost the second half by 3 pts.

Loyola took 63 shots to our 51! This is definitely a case where 3s were better than 2s since we took and made 13 of 23 vs their 5 of 14. Conversely we gave up 3x 2 pointers 12 vs 26 on 49 attempts. Which is fine if we're trading 3s for 2s. But that's not the case. We're scoring, yes. But we need to keep scoring consistently. We escaped on a missed final 3pt attempt. We didn't need to be on the razors edge. Through three games and the preseason we have demonstrated an ability to score at a high percentage. We need to keep getting this shots up because they're going in.

Like

-Knight's touch around the basket. If he's 12 feet in or closer, he's easily the best offensive option.

-Smith's steadiness with the ball and his ability to get to the hoop.

No Like

-Perimeter defense. Loyola's guards repeatedly blew past ours for easy looks.

-Knight shooting long jumpers. There are four other guys on the floor to do that, but no one else who hits the glass.

-Bench. Sistare was the only contributor, and the freshmen looked lost in limited minutes.

This.

We're not going to win many games if we only have six guys who can produce.

You guys are funny. Jackson has another terrific performance, leading the team in scoring while going 5-8 from three and 6-6 at the FT line while producing three blocks and seven boards, and his name is barely mentioned in the above thread.

Considering the guy was buried as a role player off the bench last year, his emergence as a lead player ought to be the big story of the early going for Dartmouth.

Jackson produced in limited minutes last year. That was a head scratcher last year. I'm not surprised now that he has more minutes.

I think we need a deep bench but if you look at the minutes distribution from the Loyola game there weren't many spare minutes beyond the starters. We had two guys play one minute lol. Can't do much in that time frame. I'm still pleased with all those guys who played. We just need a way to not be so porous on the perimeter. Mac seemed to let guys play through some fouls they just need to be more aggressive on Defense if that's the case.

We also have Injuries to a couple guys that also limit our depth. All in all I think we're in a much better place than in the first two years under Mac.

I don't mind the occasional long jumper from a productive player like Knight, just not near the end of the game. We definitely need to get the ball to our shooters in those instances.
